I love watching where Spirit will pop up every year. My current town is big enough for a spirit, my hometown is too small for one.

The one in my town used to be in an empty storefront next to a graveyard.Sadly it caught fire a few years ago and was never repaired :/

My son works there, his first job. He loves it.

They used to be my client at my former job, they most certainly don't start looking that early, they are doing it while moving in.

Podcast by Cracked Alum & Jeopardy champ, Alex Schmidt called Secretly Incredibly Fascinating. He did an episode about their business model

Thanks for this, I’ve been missing the cracked podcast since it went off during Covid. Any idea where I can find Jason Pargin?

He's popping in as a guest once in awhile, I think he's working more on his writing (see: Zoey Punches The Future in The Dick)

That explains why Spencer’s is still around

Wait I got it! What if we had a Halloween store that was only open in January?!

"Homer, I told you a hundred times, you've got to sell your pumpkin futures before Halloween. Before!"

How delightfully droll!

That’s so dumb I wouldn’t be surprised if a dog came up with that idea.

What’s next? A website that tells you what time it is right now? And let me guess, you’ll want to make a movie based on it next?

Nah I'm making a sex robot for my girlfriend. I'm going to call him Henry Fondle.

I always thought they should pivot to "Christmas Spirit" and extend through December.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Hell, they could start with "Thanksgiving Spirit" even.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck it, 365 Days Spirit.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They did. I'm not sure how the experiment turned out, and they used separate locations (weird) but they did start a Christmas temp store.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Source: I did their Spirit sign installs for 6 years in Arizona and one of the last years also a couple Christmas stores.

How do they find people to work for only a month. Do they have high pay because I can't imagine people are lining up for short term inretail

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Clearly for the 25% employee discount.

I know someone who just collects unemployment after they close. Probably on 10 years now.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No they're BS-ing you. In WA for example you have to work at least 34, full, part-time, weeks to get unemployment

Spirit of Halloween is open for maybe 8

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Really? Spencer's owns Spirit? How long has that been a thing?

5 years ago | Likes 228 Dislikes 2

At least since the mid-2000s. I used to install their exterior, temporary signage and lighting across Arizona starting about 2006. That's when I discovered the connection. (Billing.)

I'd say that "always" fits very well then.

They used to be the go-to mask place in the 80s and then kind of lost their way with boomer fart novelties and edible underwear.

i want to know how i can get a job scouting locations for them

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Find all the suitable locations and rent them. Then send sprint your list of demands.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's one guy scouting for the whole country. To replace him, you have to find him first then ritualistically kill him to assume his spot.
