Not all adopted pets are rescues.
Unless you saved them from the edge of a cliff, from drowning or from the grim reaper himself... they're not a "rescue".
Adopting a pet who has had several homes or from a shelter is a noble thing to do. Something I've done myself. But I have not "rescued" them. I was not heroic but I showed compassion and realized the need for a new home that I could provide.
Understanding that there are plenty of shitty people in the world that put pets in a compromised position doesn't make me a hero. I feel like I am taking some responsibility for my fellow human beings shitty behaviour and trying to make a difference in the life of an animal by adopting them.
Adopt a pet in need if you can. It's a good thing to do.
But maybe tone down on using the "rescue" title...
My puppers - Moose, the chocolate lab, moved in when his owner passed away 2 years ago.

Quite so. Our tomcat came from neighbours - they couldn't cope with the little bugger, but they weren't mistreating him. He's adopted.

I always say I adopted my dog from a rescue, rather than she is a rescue.

It bothers me, how liberal people are with using the term "rescue".... I've had a few cats from shelters. The term is "adopted".
