Try doing it on a hill or even on your toes, it's way way easier. Pretty much anyone even without practice can do it.

Unrelated but related: When I took kung fu the teacher taught me to keep my heel on the floor when doing kicks. The natural inclination is to lift your heel but it seriously impacts your balance.
