As some of you may know, standardized testing season is wrapping up in the United States
There has also been a massive public outcry against these tests, many claiming them useless. As a student myself, what irks me is that those who stand against this testing system are automatically labeled as "whiny, lazy kids."

Now here's a rant presented by a student to her school board. She takes AP classes and does well each school year.
The system is broken. Now, school board workers are warning kids of the severity of their test scores, including mentions of colleges and future courses. Considering how standardized testing is usually only a funding tool, this leaves two possible scenarios: either students are blatantly being lied to, or the system has changed in such a way that makes college acceptance and course placement more difficult. They're useless. I got a perfect score on the history one you take and it didn't help me at all. I just got my name in the paper.

You've gotta realize that the US is set up as 50 independent states with widely varying education systems. A standard is necessary.

what do the standardised tests cover in USA? In UK, GCSE/A -level are standard nationwide but I never felt deprived of learning experience.

Yeah it's not a real problem. Some kids just aren't prepared well for it and some think because they did their homework they're geniuses.

I hated how we had to ask our math teacher to teach us stuff on the test. She'd get angry cuz' we should remember ALL OF IT, back years.

Standardized testing doesn't ruin my life, but its annoying how teachers teach students just so they could pass the test, but not to learn.

As an adult I've passed "standardized testing" for my regular drivers' license, CDL, boiler license, pesticide license, etc... Tests are OK.

Somehow society must verify that pilots, electricians, doctors, teachers, etc are competent to do their jobs. Tests are how we do that.
