My sister didn't bother writing them down but would sing along with what she thought they said. I would tease her about how wrong she was. She would then play the year and a half older bully card. One day I showed her how I knew she had the lyrics wrong by opening up the paper insert in her cassette case. The look of horror on her face still makes me smile 34+ years later.
No no! It’s harder on the cassette if you just hit rewind then play! You have to hit Stop, then Rewind, then Stop, then Play. So sayth Older Brother circa 1989.
Dude. For years, I thought it was 30 thieves and the thunder chief and not dirty deeds done dirt cheap. I love having the internet to look up lyrics now.
This is how I learned the lyrics to Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby got back” with my discman on the bus in 5th grade. Sang it at karaoke meeting my fiancés ex-wife’s extended family for the first time… good impressions only
It still works! I was listening to the Carole and Tuesday soundtrack and just looking up the lyrics didn't help. Took it to pen paper, and on repeat in my car drives just to learn almost literally one more word each listen lol.
One of a couple of songs that I thought were produced later. Another notable one: What I Am by Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians (currently Paul Simon's wife).
Do you recall a thing back in the early 2000s called Bufflax? Misheard lyrics from foreign language songs? Bufflax Moskau, Bufflax Indian nipple song, Bufflax Numa Numa. This was a thing, I swear it was.
In german these are called "Agathe Bauer"-songs, because someone misheard "I've got the power" as the name. My favourite is "Du musst besoffen bestellen" (lit. You have to order drunk) which is "It must've been something you said"
see there's this, and then there's that thing where your brain finishes sentences before they end which gets you "I been through the desert on a horse with no legs".
Trying to figure out some of those REM songs we wanted to cover was such a guessing game. For example: "If you're needing inspiration, Philomath is where I go, Lawyer Jeff he knows the low down, He's mighty bad to visit home" is a verse to Can't Get There From Here that is mumbled so bad, we spent hours replaying it. I mean...Philomath? Come on!
Lyrics in liner notes were totally optional. For cassettes, I'd say only about half had them. With CDs, the percentage with lyrics went up substantially.
CDs seemed to reinvigorate liner notes and the art included. They could make little books and some of them were damn nice. The folding cardboard in cassettes just couldn't really compete imo.
Besides what everybody else has said, there is also the fact that most of us were learning the price to songs we recorded off the radio. Even if the album sold with lyrics in the liners, that only helped if we bought the album!
Its super common with front facing cameras. Your phone probably does it. It definitely displays it mirrored when filming. It might flip it after the recording is finished.
I haven't said anything about this video. There's a conversation here about when videos are typically flipped, and I added to it what I know. Also, I am not the one who downcoted you, so there is no need to get aggressive.
As soon as she started writing I was like "WTF!" And now that I've seen it flipped I also remember pause often being the far left button on most cassette players.

Its not AI. Its filmed with a front facing camera. A tonne of instagram and timtok bideos are like this.
huffnpuff72
Still hate. I've noticed a lot of content from commercial video that is flipped. Probably to avoid copyright.
MechanicalRomance
I mean, that is to avoid the automatic copyright detection, but thaylt has literally nothing to do with this video.
MechanicalRomance
Its super common with front facing cameras. Your phone probably does it. It definitely displays it mirrored when filming. It might flip it after the recording is finished.
NorwegianJim
It's also common tool in content theft to avoid automatic detection.
MechanicalRomance
Okay but this has credit literally baked in on screen for one.
For two, the text on screen which clearly is a part of the priginal content isnt flipped.
So while youre technically correct, ypure also insinuating that this content is stolen when again , the credit is baked in on screen.
This is just content pulled from instagram. Its not been flipped to avoid detection. Like half of all instagram videos are flipped like this.
This content is flipped because it was filmed fromt facing.
NorwegianJim
I haven't said anything about this video. There's a conversation here about when videos are typically flipped, and I added to it what I know. Also, I am not the one who downcoted you, so there is no need to get aggressive.
