The town is in utter chaos with what's going on in the world. If they don't go to take care of it the stuff beating at the gates gets in.

As much as I love maps, they are a dime a dozen. What's rare are maps that are keyed fully and not lightly "monster in here" "treasure"

Little of both. After I scanned them I thought about how I should have erased the pencil but I was lazy and didn't want to rescan things.

I do really dirty sketches first to get an idea of what I want, then I do the pencil drawing, then I start inking and use a ruler 4 accuracy

I've run a few campaigns with no maps. Think of it like an old text based adventure. "You're in the town, there's a blacksmith" etc.

I just use the grid on the giant mat to make sure it's the right scale. and i refuse to draw straight roads. they should meander a bit.
