Freezing winter air doesn't hold much moisture. So when you heat it up, you have to add back humidity, else it's all static & nosebleeds.

In colder places with old houses, heating often sucks ALL the moisture out of the air. Death By Desiccation. Humidifier can be a godsend.

A lot of humidifiers are "cool mist" now. Don't even have to heat up the water. We use ours in winter cos heater dries out skin.
