Redirecting it is what bending is. Benders don't generate the element from nothing, which is how the Red Lotus members were locked up.

You can try both, LoL is very "mainstream", it's easy to grab but the community is awful. Dota 2 is harder but the community is lass awful.

On a basic level DOTA isn't much harder than LoL, but it is deeper, so it gets more complicated and challenging as you improve.
