because they want you to go away, be a good sheep and stop making work for them. I see no reason to do any of that, truly.
Talmorean
And this is news to you? They're only your "rep" when they are making campaign promises otherwise they are self serving autocrats, not new.

And yet Congressional incumbents have a 93% re-election rate. Stop voting for 'The devil you know'!

"we're your state representatives, pesant." Some states are doing shit for their people.
TheInfiniteUnknown
Unless you have a check for them your Representatives and Senators don't give a shit about you and they never will.
strideo
They do when there's a shitstorm brewing and tons of angry people call and write in but that's the only time they hear average people.
ZaeMillion
Because they aren't held accountable. If the people cleaned house in the ... house, every couple of elections or so, they'd shape up.

The new nobility....... There is nothing new about corporate oppression in america.
AnIrishLegendaryPhotographer
That's why we need to talk about this. The only way things change is when we all become aware of how bad it is getting. Vote. Get involved.
Hahaha its america. What did you expect. They already know you disagree. They already made their decisions. Calling and writing wont do shit

VOTE Reps that don't take Corp or large donations. There are many under the "Justice Democrats"but there might be some on the GOP side too.

I just re-wrote my senator stating the amount of money he received from telecommunications and why he should at the least abstain.
What do you think will come of it? Nothing. He already told me once that he’s not changing his mind

He could be referring to gerrymandering for the benefit of the doubt.

Well just do the thing were famous for. REVOLUTION
blahblahbushes
The revolution you're famous for was over two centuries ago. These days America is famous for being an annoying, ignorant dumpster fire.
You're right, we need to get the band back together amd make it big again
tuffrabit
"new" ... this has been the case for decades. Nothing new under the sun.
IThinkYouGotAFineBrainJack
You need a moderate party that stands in the middle and enshrines the best that the democrats and republicans used to espouse.
AntifaCat
Moderates never do jack shit other than defend the status quo.
seamusmcfly
Or just has a level of common decency would be nice.
Tammertam
A moderate party? A moderate to what? I don't want a middle option between fascists(R) and Centrists (D). We need a legitimate leftist party
Hybris51129
We really don't need a leftist party and importantly the regression they tend to bring with them.
I mean a third party. I tried to understand a bit of the principles of the R and D. I learnt that both had some good and not necessarily
contradicting idea. Something that made the people chose those sides to begin with. You need a party that fully embodies those values
instead of the self-serving scum you have right now. A party that start caring about people. Because the biggest problem is not that people
agree with their party, is for whatever gosh darn it reason, they absolutely vote for the other party for any reason.
neil137
next election, go all democrat. i think they are the good guys
Throw them both out. Neither Democrats or Republicans are "good guys".
Yes, although it needs to be said that one is a better evil. But I agree, throw them both out!
Depends on who's getting thrown under other evils boots.
austinwizardforhire
Vote. And tell them why. In 2018 the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection.
Thephedora
This also means we can change the numbers to get a 2/3 to get rid of a lot of bullshit.
seedye
Vote. Become the constituency which must be pandered to. Then you get to set the terms. Staying home til you see what you like... 1/2
...just means they don’t have to worry about pleasing you for another cycle. 2/2
TheRelevancyOfMyNameIsRelativelyIrrelevant
nah, we just need to get people out of government, in fact lets get rid of people entirely! no more problems that way.
warriorofdiscord
As someone who's 19, and who voted in last year's elections, I plan on voting out absolutely everyone who's currently in. Everyone.
EmberFiretail
You know some people in congress are against this right? Are you just that blindly ignorant?
Of course there are. But Congress has something like a 91% re-election rate. I'm not okay with that.
breakingcode
2party system ensures that the ppl you "get to chose from" will be more party shills. Different colors of lipstick on the same pig.
fleacollerindustry
"the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection" Well, it's up in 2018... & 2020, 2022, 2024.. that's the way the system works.

Here's the problem: For who? In many situations it is Corporate asshole VS Corporate asshole.

Anyone willing to run, can we get a roll call in each state?
There IS a group, known as "Justice democrats", who are very anti-corruption, pro-populist. But some are also kin'a... SJW-y too.
Way I see it, they might get rid of some of the blatant legalised bribery, and I doubt they can get through the crazier stuff.
oh yeah, the legal bribery is pretty much the core of many issues right now. there are others, but wow US has a major bribery problem.
Mylakka
Depends on the issue. There isn't a single Dem voting against NN. Not saying they don't have problems/corrupt, but... greater evil, y'know?
"If you vote against the free net, I'll vote against you next year." has a rather nice ring to it.

Many of those on the right thought that electing Trump would be a revolution... Ha. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Suckers.
You don't understand... he said "THE Revolution"
No difference.
I mean that LITERALLY. The US has been overdue for a homegrown revolution since before its Civil War, that didn't solve this problem at all
The problem with the US constitution, as we all should know, is that it has very little to say about economics at all...
The problem is that many of its founders thought that the Constitution would be enough to hold it off, which was never going to be true.
kevinallover
Why are you laughing. We all have to deal with the outcome. They were misguided but at least they were aspirational
There were a lot of people on the right who voted for Trump because they thought he'd burn everything down/revolution. They're the suckers.
I'm laughing AT THEM for being so stupid and/or selfish. Those who voted for Trump instead of HC/Bernie were just misguided.
