The Veterinarian Association (the Big Heads) should cave and allow for the creation of Vet Assistants/Practitioners just like human doctors have. Veterinarians can diagnose and do the serious stuff and the Assistants can do the routine stuff which would be way more affordable for consumers. Good quality Vet care would become available to so many pet owners. And way fewer of our Best Friends would not suffer.

Where I am that'd depend entirely on what the vet did. If it was an appointment without any blood work, xrays, whatever special medical equipment, I'd expect it to be $80-100. It's really extra tests that make the prices go way up. Paid nearly $1000 to get my cat's teeth cleaned due to her age. We were lucky that she didn't need any teeth extracted, could have about doubled the price if that was needed.

He head butted me at my desk an hour before our vet appointment. Purred, then released the most vile fart Iāve ever smelled. $260 later, just gas.
Good thing I'm not American and has a vocabulary that is larger than most native speakers', then. I guess getting to hear dog sounds without being aurally assaulted by a robot voice is too much to ask.

An emergency vets consultation costs Ā£280 in Scotland. That's before they even do anything. My puppy had a UTI over a weekend and was pissing every 2-3 minutes. When I found out how much the emergency vet would cost, I had to turn to "remedies" online because I couldn't afford to get her looked at until her normal vets were open. Literally all it would have been was a prescription, and she probably wouldn't even have needed to go in. For Ā£280.
They gave the dog a routine physical exam, and there's a cost for that. You're trying to minimize it by calling it a cursory once-over, but they definitely did more than just stick their head in, say it's gas, and hand fluffy's owner a bill.
Not much more. Point is the charge shouldnāt be so much for such a comparatively minor issue. A few minutes of work to determine the dog is healthy should cost less than $150. Iād feel really silly asking for so much to tell someone their animal was fine and it didnāt take much to figure that out.
Great so charge like $50. Not saying the vet shouldnāt get anything. Plus a lower fee for super basic visits might draw more business vs owners skipping it due to high cost.
And if it was only $150 that means they didn't do more expensive testing like an x-ray, so they ALREADY gave her a discount because they didn't feel the need to do more extensive tests after the fart.
They charge $150 because that's what an appt slot costs. That's what the Dr.'s time is worth. Had their been anything more than "he's fine now" it would have been more. Vets are some of the most learned, most depressed Dr's out there. Their time is valuable.
