Walking Rolv

Walking Rolv (Gange-Rolv in Norwegian, or Hrólf in old Norwegian) is my favourite Viking in many ways. For starters he was a bit like I am. A Norwegian giant. The saga says he was so tall no horse could carry him, so he was always seen walking to battle. Hence the epithet Walking Rolv.

He was the son of Ragnvald Mørejarl, who was the man who cut Harald Fairhairs hair after Harald won the battle of Hafrsfjord and became the first King to rule all of Norway.

Walking Rolv was a great Viking and trusted warrior. He joined several raids in the Austerled (the eastern territory reached from Russia and all the way to Istanbul and beyond) but was outlawed by Harald Fairhair after a raid he did in Viken (Norway) so he decided to travel south. That ended with him becoming duke of Normandy and marrying the Kings daughter Gisela. Here he begun the Norman dynasty, who would later raise names like Wilhelm the conqueror!

As a Norwegian sergeant at 198 cm (that's 6ft6" measured in freedom) I have always looked up to him.

This is of course OC, and if you beautiful people like this I'll be more than happy to make more on famous Vikings! If you have any questions about Vikings, ask me! Have a lovely day!!!

They had small ponies, not the massive war horses shown in movies. That's why such a large man would need to walk.

Happy to be Icelandic. Leifur Eiríksson or Egill Skallagrímsson would be my favourites. Harald harðráði is a close 3rd

In the sagas it says that Erik had to leave "because of some murders" but doesn't go into any more detail than that, can you shed any light?

Why was he outlawed?

Raiding distant lands was allowed and encouraged but Raiding your own people, not so much.

Because he raided Viken, a place I Norway. So Harald Fairhair didn't want a man plundering his own country
