Bye bye Bambi!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That could have gone worse for her if she swerved to miss it. It's a bummer, but that was a good, clean drive through..

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Deer seem confused a lot of the time...

Poor darlin’!

"They serve venison here? Excuse me while I nope out."

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

‘Holy fuck!’ (After several seconds)

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Honestly I am more worried about wether she or someone else moved it off the road.... Uncle nearly got killed hitting a dead deer at night.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

These fucking things pop out of nowhere! I’ve almost hit 3 in the last two years. Good on her for not swerving and killing herself or others

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

They’re dumb as fuck too. Country road - literally only car for miles. Deer on side of road runs directly into car.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In highschool i was driving home and a deer sprinted out from the side and headbutted my passenger door. Things are cray

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is true. Ppl downvoting the correct procedure want to save Bambi and have never experienced this first hand. “Just swerve!” Ok genius.

She did good. You can tell she braked, didn't panic, and didn't swerve. Granted she shouldn't have been eating in the car, but still.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Some say she is still driving down the road.....

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

THEOST VERSATILE GIF

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, her eyes widen and she tenses before we even see the deer go past the window. The holy fuck wasn't her first reaction, it was her third.

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

The delay really seems to be a semi-conscious decision that chewing food > hitting deer.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

She had a good primary, keep control of the car, secure the food. Her secondary, she assessed the situation. And finally, she cursed. Kudos.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Exactly this!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

She was slowing down. Look at the thing hanging from the mirror

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A gif including her reaction would be 6 seconds long.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She didnt realize whats happenin. Thats why shes calm

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

She realized. Her eyes went. I get that people wanna spin a "BUT TEH APPZ TEH PHONEZ" narrative, but she was fully aware.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She did not have time to steer away. Deer WILL jump in front of you without hesitation. They're dumb that way.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If she HAD tried to, chances are she'd have started swerving AFTER hitting the deer, endangering herself and others.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the people talking about reaction times, she was calm didnt swerve she knew it was about to happen, that probably saved her a major crash.

5 years ago | Likes 193 Dislikes 10

Look at the dangling bits from the mirror. She's breaking hard, so kudos to her.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Plus the deer is probably hidden behind the truck that is driving down the road in front of the deer?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

She was also on the brakes much earlier than it seems at first if you watch what's hanging from the rearview.

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

she was calm because she had absolutely no reaction what so ever. Someone probably had to tell her she hit a deer

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 23

Oh, so I suppose the early braking wasn't a reaction then?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Loool. If she'd had any facial reaction you would've called her an over-emotional female. Don't deny it.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did we watch the same video? She calmly grabs the wheel while braking well in advance. She really couldn't haven't produced a better result

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Without risking her safety and the safety of other drivers

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

She was to into what ever she was eating lol

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

As far as driving strategy goes, she gets an A+ ... don’t brake hard, don’t swerve. Maintain a rigid, straight line. Cry after

Packet loss

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don´t do edibles and drive, kids.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As soon as the deer hits her car her eyes bulge a little. She reacted correctly since she didn't swerve but knew what happened.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm also a bit worried about her music taste.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 17

What was it even

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Wow, people really cant do anything without someone else bitching about it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't think it's delayed reaction so much as annoyed exclamation. I'd have been a lot more concerned for the deer personally

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Why would you be concerned for a deer?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Because... it's a living thing... that can feel fear and pain..?? Is this a joke or

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It's also a deer. Deer are pests like roaches, do you feel concerned if someone steps on a roach?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Humans are pests, do you feel bad if someone kills a baby?? That's such a fucked-up viewpoint dude. Of all the things in this world to

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah, beats swerving. Besides, she had a mouthful of pretzel. Thump! (Chew, chew, chew, swallow) holy fuck!

Hit a pregnant one once. In a tow truck. Splattered baby deer alllllllll over the place. You're welcome for that visual.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Actually check to see if its dead and you should move it off the road before someone else hits it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Be sure there's lights on when you do so nobody hits you doing it. ALSO move it well off the road b/c other animals will come to eat road-

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

kill, possibly also getting hit (we had a lot of scavengers come into wildlife rescue like this) or causing wrecks.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I donno. Work camera once got me barely missing a dear. 45 seconds later I just look at the driver camera and shout DEER!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Her reaction time is fine.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

She did react in her face just as she hit it, clearly didn’t know what to do about the situation from then on though.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What the fuck would you do?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Depends. If you're with PETA you swerve into oncoming traffic, killing 3 people but saving the deer.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Notice the dangling thing in front of the camera ? She starts breaking like 2sec before the impact

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

She did exactly the right thing under the circumstances

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

Its also possible she wasn't the first to hit the deer. Oncoming traffic may have punted it into her. Lots of variables at play here.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah. It looks like the deer is actually upside down when it hit her car.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah that was perfect. No panic, eyes on the road, in control.

5 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 1

Exactly. The biggest danger on the road is when people panic and act impulsively. Staying focused and in control is key. Which she did.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

She was eating while driving with one hand. An abundance of proper control does not apply.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

So, shifting a manual with one hand is... Not having control?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If you know about driving a manual, you know that you don't leave your hand on the shifter. Hand off, switch gears, back to wheel.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. I've driven a manual, but, tend to keep my hand on the shifter.... Bad habit.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Her physical reaction was immediate, shouting or screaming isn't the first reaction most people go with

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Her eye brow reaction was quick, she knew what happened

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

It hit the side of her car, didn't go over the hood. Also came across the road where other cars are traveling and possibly obstructing view

5 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 2

I've center punched deer and they go spinning up and to the side, I don't know the physics behind it though. Driving a civic

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Obviously deer adhere to the same laws of physics as Team Rocket.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. If they're full on running when you clip them they're going to keep going in that direction. Can confirm.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Looks like that pickup blocked the view pretty well, unless it hit the deer into her car

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Going frame-by-frame it looks like the deer was upside down when it hit the side of her car so the truck probably hit it.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The truck that passes before the deer hits was probably prohibiting her from seeing it ya goofs.

5 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

I was looking frame-by-frame and it looks like the deer was upside down when it hit the side of her car.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

^^^ The only times I've come close to hitting a deer is when some ass won't turn their brights off

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you look at the string hanging from the mirror you can see shes hitting her brakes pretty hard before impact

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I've had a few close calls with deer and this is kinda how I was. Your brain knows what's happening but your body lags

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

She didn't even slow down.... and the munchies? ...probably snorting marijuanas.

5 years ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 36

Stay away from the Marijuana just look what one Marijuana did to Becky.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I had heard unless your able to basically stop slowing down does more harm than good as the speed increases the chances it will go over

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I had one marijuana. Now I'm bald, gay, and living in the woods with my husband carving chairs for squirrels. Our budget is $1.2 million.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She did slow down, far in advance.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You literally see her slow down, a lot. Watch the string hanging from her mirror, it swings hard as she breaks.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

You can see her hit the brakes 3 seconds before impact. Maybe 20-60 meters away.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

She very obviously hit the brakes. Look at her mirror ornament. It swings forward an dstays there for a second or two...

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Looks like the lights are on on the passing cars

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which seemed normal for a night mode camera when I saw other videos online. Especially the garmen security camera inside the car.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I think youre right, def looks like night mode. Her eyes are wide open. v

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

She reacted right away, didnt swerve. Just had to chew a little bit before she had the space to say holy fuck

5 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

Those things come out of the trees fast, there's no time to react

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It was the right move. You don't swerve. Insurance covers hitting a deer. It usually doesn't cover swerving into the bar ditch.

5 years ago | Likes 465 Dislikes 8

Yup. React first as the driver then react as a person. Freak out after you're pulled over and safe.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless it's a moose. Then you absolutely do swerve(if it's possible and not into oncoming). Your odds of survival are better in the ditch.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Except for the one handed driving and eating while driving. I'm worried the comments aren't littered with people pointing this out.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Many of us eat a donut, smoke a cig, coffee in our lap, and shift gears all at the same time. Driving one handed and eating is casual.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It was the right outcome. I doubt it was a conscious decission on her part tho

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the things they drill into you in CDL school is swerving is bad. If you swerve to miss the deer and hit a car, you are fucked. If

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You nail the deer and damage (or total) the semi then its a non preventable. Always pick the non preventable.

Does not cover if they’re already down either.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you can only afford liability. Then you're fucked regardless.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who drives a small car and has seen video of deer liquifying a person as it smashes through their windshield... I'm swerving.

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 18

Totally agree, I don't want to be a meat popsicle. If you see something really try hard not to hit it without losing control of your car obv

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Just like I've seen videos of situations where not wearing a seatbelt saved a life, it's still a far less likely outcome. Seatbelts for me.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The correct thing to do is speed up. If you brake the deer will go through ur windshield. If u swerve u'll hit something else. So speed up.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Deer is safer than ground.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would rather hit a deer and take the smaller risk rather than hitting another vehicle or a tree/immovable object.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given the alternative things you'd hit, the deer is still the safe one.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Depends on the road. I hit one on I10 at 3am. No vehicles for 20 miles in either direction and 3 lanes. Jumped into my path AFTER I swerved.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

that wasn't a deer that as an assassin

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can swerve with small corrections. Problem is most people over correct and end up rolling their vehicle.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

As someone who drove a small car and hit at least 4 deer, you're more likely to survive if you don't swerve.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

4?! What do you have against deer?!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Haha, lived in very rural areas, they can be hard to spot and will suddenly jump out of tall grass. I've gotten very good at spotting them

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do deer have against them is the real question...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do. Not. Swerve. Jam on the brakes if you can, firmly push and let the ABS chatter, but plow through that bad boy.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

. But make a face so the ppl viewing yer dashcam dont think yer off yer meds or something

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

what? no no brakes. that brings your hood down, and the deer through the windshield.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Huh... I never thought about the angle of attack... Just thinking reducing the force (speed kills and all that)... But yeah, that's a good

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Point. I'll have to adjust my strategy (Δ awarded)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Deer = comprehensive coverage (if you have it), likely no policy increase. Ditch = single vehicle at fault collision, likely surcharged

5 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 1

It was the right outcome. I doubt it was a conscious decission on her part tho

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since I found this out its all I carry and I drive through deer country.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea i would not report it just fix it myself

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same but it also depends on how much damage it causes and age of vehicle. Comprehensive also covers fires, trees etc

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm its true for State Farm in Utah

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Dang. Same thing for Saskatchewan, Canada.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True for both State Farm and GEICO in Missouri.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You guys realize the specific insurer has nothing to do with it right? These things are set out in your local highway traffic act.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only swerve for animals you can see under.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

And wild boar. Those things can make you flip your car the get so big and have a low center of gravity

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. I live in the rurals where hitting animals are probably the biggest hazard and the instructors emphasise this. Don't swerve.

5 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

It was the right outcome. I doubt it was a conscious decission on her part tho

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do not swerve and for the love of Jesus if it’s below 30°, don’t slam on the brakes.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

30 degrees of what?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

30°F, apologies.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Separation

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You know what though, I think she handled it very well. It’s sad that it’s going to get hit but it’s better than trying to turn the vehicle.

5 years ago | Likes 643 Dislikes 7

Like me! I swerved hard to dodge a deer, rear got loose and came around and put me in a ditch after 3/4 of a roll.

5 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Same thing happened to me, except it was a bear. I wasn’t driving a bear. I almost hit a bear..

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Thanks was very confused at first

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for clarifying.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Probably due to the fact she is clearly distracted from driving in general, had no time to panic.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 25

Looking at the item on the rear view mirror she is clearly braking, pretty hard too so she sees something and is reacting and not panicking

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

She seems pretty focused on the road. And she calmly braces for impact before she hits it- I think it was just a “wait until after” reaction

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

She’s focused on the road. You can tell because you can watch the video....

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 3

She's eating while driving one handed showing less than minimum focus on the road. You can tell because you can watch the video.....

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 21

So I'm assuming you also can't walk and chew gum at the same time? Since you're having so much trouble comprehending this

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you can't drive properly while eating a convenience food, then you can't drive properly at all.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

You have a point with being one handed. However, it looks like she only takes her eyes off the road when checking the rear view mirror.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And, before dealing with an issue she makes sure she has both hands back on the wheel. Overall, I’d argue she was focused n handled it well.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We don't stop 1 handed people from driving. Or people from driving stick.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. A dead deer and a ruined bumper is nothing compared to a full frontal collision with another car.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For sure. You might drive off the road and hit a tree, then try to prove to the insurance company "but there was a deer on the road".

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I totalled my car to avoid a deer, full coverage, agent told me next time just hit it. But, it could slide up into the windshield, you ded.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And cause more damage or hurt someone else

5 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 1

Looks like it flew into oncoming traffic here. If it was a real deer, I suspect it did plenty of damage to other vehicles.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been repeatedly installing the mindset of never swerving for deer in my daughter for years, and she isn't even old enough to drive yet

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Agreed, but I have some doubt she ever even saw it until it bounce off her headlight.

5 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

Look at her lanyard hanging from mirror. You can tell she's braking a while before contact.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

To explain, her eyes don't track/move for anything coming from the shoulder. Don't think the deer would just be chilling there. Gladshe isok

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

You apparently don't know deer. Especially NJ deer. They will wait at the side of the road looking unsuspecting and then run into the side>

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I have almost hit a couple. Just luck made me miss it. I meant chilling in the contact zone but ya good point they do chill on the shoulder>

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of your car while you're SITTING IN TRAFFIC AT A FULL STOP! Mofuckin deer ramming into cars left and right in NJ.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Shoot, I've had one run into the side of my car while I was driving down the highway. I couldn't do a thing about that.
