T-Shirt Quilt

The t-shirts.

My boyfriend had a load of old t-shirts, mainly of bands or films, that he doesn't wear any more but didn't want to get rid of so I decided to make t-shirt quilt. My first sewing project in about 10 years!

Equipment.

Rotary cutter and cutting mat, much easier to use and more accurate than scissors.

Iron on backing

I used a heat fusing interfacing to stop the t-shirt material being quite so stretchy.

Cutting the squares.

Once the t-shirts were backed with the interfacing I cut them into squares using the rotary cutter and an acrylic square template.

Working out the pattern.

I tried to ensure similar colours weren't next to each other.

Putting the first row together

I sewed one row together at a time and then sewed the rows together.

Sewing onto the backing.

I used a king size purple duvet cover as the backing. I toyed with the idea of just sewing it to the top layer so a duvet could still be inserted but decided against it so the stitches went all the way through the cover. It was really difficult to keep the t-shirt part in place even with pins everywhere.

Done!

Even got matching pillow cases :)
