5 Gallons of my “Christmas Grog Chocolate Stout.” It will finish on Buffalo Trace barrel chips.

Edit: someone asked about my recipe: Here tis:
My grain bill was
7.5 lbs 2 row American base malt.
2 lbs English Crystal Malt 70/80L
1.5 lbs Wayerman Munich
1 lb Munton’s Caramalt
1 lb Carafa #1
.5 lb Carafa #2
2 lbs oats
1 lb honey
Hops & Other Yummy Stuff:
1 oz Cascade at 60 min. boil.
2 Cinnamon sticks 60 min
1 whole nutmeg at 60 min
2 oz crushed ginger root at 60 min
3 Oranges peel zest at 60 min.
1/2 cup Ghirardelli 100% cocoa powder at 15 min.
.5 oz Saaz at flame out. (I actually intended to get this in at 15, but forgot. It’s fine. Just a bit more citrus in the nose me thinks.
Yeast: Safale US-05. (My go-to fave.)

My OG was on the mark at 1.5. Edit: Typo. It was 1.05. Duh. I’m expecting a final ABV between 6.5-7%.

I’ll add my bourbon soaked chips to secondary, and then keg right before Christmas. The last time I did this recipe, it really improved by aging two more weeks on those chips than this batch will have. But it should be fine.

Sounds great! I need to start brewing again

If this is yeast farts, then alcohol is yeast diarrhea.

I really wish I knew how to get started making beer.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Make spirits, its easier, nothing better than making a 20 liter batch of rum thats better than store bought

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Norther brewer. Great company

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Another vote for Northern Brewer starter kits. You'll be calling yourself brewmaster in no time.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's some really easy starter kits out there for a good price

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Its incredibly easy. Been doing it 8+ years now, it’s a great hobby.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Walk into a home brew shop. Say "assume I know nothing about brewing beer." They'll take it from there. That's how I started. If there>

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

>is no local home brew shop, get John Palmer's book "How to Brew". Homebrewtalk web site has a beginner section, as well. It's great fun.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dottage

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's actually a lot of fun. I make all kinds of crazy stuff. It's as hard as you make it but super easy going with the flow.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you can wash your hands and boil water, you too can make beer. Very simple to very complex depending on how much time you want to spend

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dammit. I’m out.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you don't want to wash your hands and you burn water, then I suggest just drinking beer others have made.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buy a one gallon kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop after the holidays and give it a try with your current pots and pans. That’s what I did.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It’ll be on sale for half off.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

http://www.howtobrew.com John Palmer's book, 1st edition online for free. Gets right to it in the beginning, without too much nerd shit,

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and then gets pretty nerdy when you're ready for that. Troubleshooting, all that. The updated book is totally worth it, but he's done a

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ton of videos too. Basicbrewing was awesome as an info source too.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey! I can help with that! If your not too far away I can even send you the equipment.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s super simple. Give it a try

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out some different kits you can buy. Lots of work but not too difficult plus its really fun drinking a beer you made yourself.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's sooo easy.. find your local brew shop and ask about extract starter kits... hard part is when you get hooked

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Someone gave me a “Mr. Beer kit.” It had the malt extracts, the hops, the yeast, and a fermenter to make 2.5 gallons. Aaaand I was hooked.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And when you advance go too far too fast, I just upgraded to kegging from bottling. Dropped a cool $600 before I realised.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Still bottling as Im not able to have an extra fridge but I understand your pain.. dropped a decent chunk on my Robo brew & accessories..

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

holy shit, just googled robobrew, now i am likely out ANOTHER couple hundred to up my game. Well played sir.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will change your life... of u can afford it and have the space go the bigger version.. I live in an apartment so could only get the 35lt

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wine is more forgiving since it takes longer, and getting started is roughly the same cost.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And makes more! Only down side is you have to bottle it instead of kegging it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but you can make pretty good beer pretty easily, but good wine is really hard to make in your basement. IMO...

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

friend made homemade wine. not terrible, a little too sweet, and will get you plastered in minutes

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my experience it's easier to get decent wine from a kit than decent beer. Also you don't need to worry about carbonation.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been making wine for several years now. Not that hard. Can get all the basic equipment for about $80. A good wine kit will run you...2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

....another $60 - $80. Contains all the ingredients. Just follow the directions. Important thing is clean, sterile equipment and ...3

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... keeping it warm during fermentation.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But make something, dammit! Cider! Mead! You name it! Yeast means booze!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hell, go buy a bottle of any fruit juice, chuck in some yeast, and put a balloon on the opening. $5 and you’ve got a bottle of wine!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do girls with yeast infections have the same problem?

Good hygiene is a thing...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Oh dear jesus. Yeast infections have nothing to do with hygiene. You need to educate yourself about your own body.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to know. I assumed that since its fungal that hygiene would be it and never looked more into an infection I wasn't getting. Thank you.
