When I got to the intensive care area, Mr Cochon looked tired and showed little movement, so I asked if I could make him more comfortable on a table, so we could spend one last hour together.

The vet explained the procedure, and we waited a little longer, but Mr. Cochon started to show signs of nausea, and I didn't want to let him suffer any longer.

I looked him straight in the eyes, he closed them a few times, probably his way of telling me I love you one last time. I told him in my ear all that was in my heart, how sorry I was to have put him through all that, how much I loved him and how I wished he could see my children.

I promised him that he was the best of them all, that he would be the last pet I'd ever have and that I'd never forget him.

After a few kisses on the belly and head, the vet put Mr. Cochon to sleep first, so I got behind him and the vet pulled the lever for the rainbow road.

Mr cochon fell asleep at 20h18 this Friday, August 11, 2023, it was the oldest of all cats in his family, he broke all records. I was able to take some of his fur.

He was my best friend, my little brother, the first thing i saw every morning and the last one every night. he was following me for my coffee and when i brush my tooth.

i love him so much.

just a few minutes before the last travel

this morning i accompanied my best friend on his last journey, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done for me, you are the kind of human i aspire to be. I can't thank you enough for what you've done for me !

knowing that my best friend was on y'all minds before he fell asleep warmed my heart,

the next photo might shock some people, so don't hesitate to skip it quickly, it's my little brother just before his final destination.

The crematorium allowed me to put him on his favorite scratching post for his last journey. I wasn't happy to see him like this, but i wanted to be there for him.

i made him a small place juste under my mother shelf. it's temporary just the time to find a better urn and a better disposition.

as I have already told you, I could never thank you enough for all your donations, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, it allowed me to focus on what was happening to my friend more than to financial consideration so once again (and I will never repeat it enought) a big thanks to all of you :

You’re a good cat dad.

This would have been so much harder for him if he didn’t have you to help him cross. Well done.

We've lost a much-beloved dog recently, first time I've had to face that. Spouse, who regularly said openly that she loved this dog more than anything else (explicitly including me), wanted another dog immediately. This wasn't to replace who we lost - that couldn't be done - but to ensure another dog in need could have a loving home. Our hearts are big enough to sustain loss and still share love and joy, when the time is right. Please don't consider it a disservice to Mr Cochon if you love again

I too, have had to say farewell to the most amazing animal companions, and it always hurts like fire. With so many kittens born every spring, every DAY, may I plant a flea in your ear? Perhaps, one day, your heart may decide that the very best way to honor your fallen comrade is to rescue another little life? A heart so full of love, it should not be frozen forever. Maybe someday there will be summer again.

I love it when I find people out there that love their fur-babies as much as I do. <3 Beautiful story. You will meet again.

I envy you being able to say goodbye. I was on holiday when my Tigger fell ill. Didn't get the news till I got home. I miss that grumpy old guy.

That kitty had a wonderful life, and I'm glad you were able to give him a wonderful death. *hugs*

Yves, I read your journey of love just now and cried. Please remember his love and that yours was the last thing he felt. Toutes mes condoléances.

agreed...and don't feel like you need to stick to the "you'll be my last pet" promise. mr cochon wouldn't want that. he'd want you to give that same happiness to other pets and receive it for yourself

My cat Nina and I got caught up in the same drama two months ago. It broke my heart to decide about her life or death. However, during the last examination by the vet it became clear that she would never get better, only worse. So I made that decision. I had my arms around her the whole time until her heart stopped beating. And as I write this, tears are streaming down my face. Nina was 17 years and 3 months old.

I forgot to write that I sympathize with you. I know how difficult these days are and how much it hurts. I send you a hug and all the best for the coming days and weeks.

You are far tougher than I. Call me a monster if you will, but the only way I could do this is if the vet shot ME up with something! (damned Emotional Dysregulation!) So, so sorry for your loss!

You’re a beautiful cat owner. And he was a lucky lucky baby. I have a cat-that has been my therapy animal for the last 5 years. Sometimes I feel like I love him too much. Like when he goes-if it’s before me-I’ll be a zombie. These furry creatures do actually feel attachment to us. We are their people. And they are our connection to a world devoid of human folly and pain. Cherish your memories. And when you’re ready, remember there are others than need a home like yours.

You know there is a trick with using a wet paper towel next to the onions. *sniff* those ninjas need to learn. I'm getting it bad.

I feel you, fam. I was in the same situation 4 years ago with my goodest girl, and she went over the rainbow bridge with her blanket and flowers, too. Trust me on this: after a while the good memories outweigh the pain. Love prevails. R.I.P. Mr Cochon

I’m so very very sorry for the loss of your baby. Thank you for being with him to cross the 🌈

This is soon, and you have me crying already, but trust me when I say he would not want you to never love again. He knows you gave him everything you had and that he did the same for you. He wants you to make another kitty as happy as he was, and for you to be as happy as you were with him again, when you are ready. And, having lost our Ferrix almost a year ago and having taken in another kitten in the mean time, believe me when I get you that he will be there, right out of sight, whispering

into your new guardian's ear every way to make you smile and every way to steal your heart... and food 😁 Now excuse me while I ugly cry over Ferrix' memory for a while again... He was the bestest kitty.

Thank you for sharing, and thank you for staying with him to the last breath.

We had to put our Dottie down earlier this year. It doesn't hurt as much now, but these posts remind that we did the right thing at the right time, and so that helps it to hurt less.

He travelled on knowing that you love him, and always will. My sorrow for your deep grief. I hope you don't close the door to having another pet some day when you are ready- Mr Cochon would want you to be loved and happy, and to honor his life by saving another cat and sharing what you learned together.
