Flashback to the time I worked in a call center and a colleague was tasked with hooking all the computers. Came in to find everything connected correctly except a VGA cable connected between each pair of monitors. Screwed in too so it was a hassle to remove. Their system seems much more more fool proof.
I don't think we ever turned the computers on since it was obvious it was a miss. But the second monitor wouldn't have shown anything. Well, it would have showed "no signal", but otherwise no.
This is how they make the big screens for stadium shows, I helped spot for a guy who had to climb up the back, those handles pop out like ladders. Pretty crazy just snap an auto pulley belayer on and up he went like 3 stories plus.
Some of the new ones meant to be seen up close have better resolution and finer pixels. But these are still mainly used for large screens at distances like concerts and such. So that why it seems kind of pixely in the vid.
These are the kind of panels we use in live entertainment. Any concert or show you've seen with video walls uses something like this. They are usually attached to truss and flown out with chain hoists. All the levers and interconnects you see are meant to prevent this thing from falling out of the air. The cables are power and data in and thru connections.
the side flaps are just locking/alignment bolts, 2 to a side. then it has power in, and power out, and data in, and data out (these panesl are all daisy chained)
15x7m wall off 300x600mm panels. All actually on ethercon, not the shitty 45s in this video, also all on truecon, better but ever so slightly more awkward. Then do the two imag and there's another 15x7 upstairs. Ergh.
I actually love it just BECAUSE of all the hinges, levers, and cables. Reminds me of being a kid watching some Batman or Transformers sequence. And the connections are clean with a really satisfying clack.
It ending up as a TV was less impressive than I'd hoped for, but it didn't cancel out the good feels.
If you like a great and weird watch, check out Tokyo Flash. They've been around forever and change their inventory regularly. Watches that you need an instruction manual to use/read (unless you can read binary, in since cases).
Its an electrostatic discharge wrist band, hence the little lightning bolts on it. You don't want sensitive electronics to get a static shock, it can break them

I was just thinking that my solitaire games would be better on a bigger screen.

Thank dog for color coding!

This seems like a technicians nightmare.

Not his first rodeo.

Ryebread91
Does that mean all the monitors were displaying the same thing?
vizeroy42
Nope. Daisy chaining wasn't a thing for VGA... you can do it with DisplayPort, though.

What the heck is this "watch?"
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
Xiaomi Mi band (it lights up later in the video), with a DJI mic and a MOMA brand mic clipped on each side.
beerdeer
Was kind of hoping it was just a giant lever-flipping, cord-plugging fidget device
RowanUnderwood
Humans are weird.
Melonfish
Now, can you do 4k and wrap it around a flight rig?
Sanztrack
Yes! I've done racing wraparounds with pixelflex before. Super cool, but very expensive... $120k+
Melonfish
Tempting.... I could remortgage.
Sanztrack
Selling a kidney could make a decent down payment
modernshoggoth
Yes but it costs SO much more. Like... Holy SHIT so much more.
Akurei00
Best I can do is 480i.

ok I'll give you tree fiddy

It's weird how there so many ways to connect so many things but I can't connect even a single glass of tap water with someone who doesn't have any.

As much as I hate Chinese influence on here. These things are neat.
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
China is more than its political regime.

Sure they are.
idonthaveauser
I've seen similar devices with far fewer levers to pull and connectors to plug

Sure, other LED walls are quick to replace tiles but are they flexible and freestanding?

Sounds boring.

Ok what's your clever plan for building a LED wall then
Sanztrack
Uhh, everything he just did in this video were pretty standard for a road show video wall. Plus the ability to be flexible and build a curved wall?

Physics works because everything is connected. magic works because it is not. Proceed very carefully when deciding what kind of magic to use.
CaptSchmidtGaming
To be extremely clear, Physics is a a form of sorcery. as Sorcery roots its power from "the source" and the source is connected to everything.

After those million hinges, levers and cables he has to manipulate, it's not that cool. That's just another monitor.
homoerection
It’s pretty cool, to me. 🤷🏼♂️
BishlamekGurpgork
Like, it's cool, but it's not very surprising.
It combines a few existing things, like flex monitors and bevel-less screens with interlocks, but it's all stuff we know. It's just expensive.
mzamurman
You've clearly never slapped a CRT on the head whilst waiting for Manic Miner to load.
Mmbear
For how expensive that is you would think that it could make all those connections when it snaps in.

Plus you can climb them and replace cables mid-show should anything fail... those things are robust as heck

I think I've seen same thing with one connector.

I agree. Bendy screen with the same connections, just more expensive
