My go-to response is something along the lines of this:

If one side of an argument wants to be allowed to do something (within reason) their way, and the other side wants to force everyone to do it their way, it is really easy to see which one is on the wrong.

It's missing the panel where they all get fun with the nightstick and cuffs.

When people say things like "You can't say _____ anymore," what they usually mean is "People feel comfortable calling me out for being a bigoted asshole."

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

They just really, really want to say THAT word.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I put in a blank because they use all sorts of words in that kind of sentence.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or they've bought into the Christian right's persecution complex nonsense and actually do believe what they're saying.

No one is stopping you from saying "Happy Easter" or "Merry Christmas." You've just been fooled into thinking that so you're more likely to vote against your own best interests in the name of "stopping the enemy."

Like the people who say, "you couldn't make a movie like this anymore." No you absolutely could, just it might not be popular.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

The best part of that idiocy is that the group keeps moving Its standards. “Something about Mary“ came out when people were bitching about how you couldn’t make comedies anymore.

I do honestly believe you couldn't make certain films anymore -- not unless you want to be called a racist and be blacklisted (or at least boycotted). Blazing Saddles is a perfect example. It would have to be extensively rewritten to avoid offending anybody, and then conservative dipshits would complain it's "too woke." The original "Roots" miniseries is another. I know it was remade a few years back, but I guarantee there were parts that had to be rewritten to avoid using language that was >

actually used in that historical period. Actually, I'm surprised that some of the subject matter got back network censors back then, as well. Of course, I'm sure both the original and the remake are not allowed in Florida. Filmmakers would have to make a new version showing the slaves being happy with their gainful employment, and how they were learning useful skills they could use after they were freed.

*got PAST network censors... jeeze...

Here's the thing, it's cheaper to make movies than ever before. Ask lloyd Kaufman sometime if there's anything you can't make anymore. The tools have never been more accessable, camera tech has never been cheaper. It's the drive and expectation it's successful. You can make that movie, you can make any movie. Just you won't find a distributor, but you can distribute yourself. Lots of racist stuff been distributed and sold by right wing grifters who play victim.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is a "slightly cleaned up" version of Blazing Saddles but, you know, for kids.

So what does the town Pixie Stick addict try to tell the town the new sheriff is while being drowned out by the bell?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would ruin the plot. https://youtu.be/vp-bhtqFu34?si=9LDBxtRVEebLj285

I got arrested for saying “Merry Christmas.” The fact that I was throwing firebombs around in the bank had nothing to do with it.

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!

I say "Merry Christmas" and immediately duck and cover. No one tear gasses me. At worst, one person says, "thanks, Happy Holidays to you too!" and I recoil in horror as the words burn my skin. Jesus, presently descending from Heaven for his second coming, turns back and leaves humans alone with a tear in his eye. Maybe next year, He thinks.

I am a die-hard atheist but I still say Merry Christmas to everybody. It's a federal holiday. It's on the calendar.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let’s say “merry Christmastide”, because it’s the time around Christmas. That way everyone is sure to be happy!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I say screw them. If they can't be happy that time of year, they ain't going to be happy! However, if they start throwing religious bullshit at me, I let my rage from my religious training fly! :-)

Well read protestant here. Easter is ironically not Christian in my view. Its another catholic abomination born from adopting paganite worship of Eostar which itself probably came from worship of Ishtar before that. Also I would say anyone bitching about "merry christmas" persecution better not be decorating a tree as a Christian, since that is also a pagan thing. Traditions are fine, do what you want, but stop taking the lord's name in vain with your bitching.

I WISH the rapture would happen and take a bunch of zealous dipshits out of here.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

The rapture happens, only those wearing fursuits ascend. Everyone is confused.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I wish the rapture would happen because I want them to sit and realize they fucked up big time as they're uniquely not taken because they followed some asshole fan fiction because they wanted others to suffer more than they wanted to love their neighbor.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The sad thing is that most of them probably wouldn't accept it because having complete confidence is their whole thing. Like, have you ever tried to convince a self-important evangelist of anything? They would do whatever mental gymnastics they had to to convince themselves it was on purpose and they need to double down on being awful, sorry, "righteous".

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No no, I like the other guys idea better... Rid of all the religious weirdos and we've got a better society. And I mean all those cunts that do bad stuff in name of religion too!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My personal theory is that rapture already happened. All the people who believe in it got left behind because they're not worthy. And anyone who WAS worthy got left behind because they didn't subscribe to the fan fiction you have to believe in order to be taken.

....why have an inherently evil god in your personal theory out of curiosity?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you even READ the bible? But seriously, all that "Heaven" stuff is supposed to be for true believers. If you don't worship the magical, invisible sky-daddy, you don't go to heaven.

Or to paraphrase what a pastor told me when I was a kid, it's not enough to just be a good person, or to just worship God. You have to worship God, AND you have to be a good person.
