The whole “you’ll become more conservative as you get older” is based on two ideas. Fiscally, right-wing parties had the reputation of being good for people’s standard of living. This is no longer true. And it wouldn’t matter anyway, because these days nobody can afford assets they’d want to protect. “Eat the rich” is fine when you’re a poor student but less so when you *are* the rich. But that kind of nobility doesn’t happen nearly as much any more. 1/2

2/2 As for social conservatism, that’s not people moving to the right, that’s societal attitudes moving to the left and people not being engaged enough to keep up. My mum was very progressive in her day, but today comes off as mildly racist and homophobic. Her attitudes haven’t changed, but if you compare to social attitudes of even a couple of decades ago WRT things like race and sexuality to today then you can see how far things have progressed. That’s not people moving, it’s people not moving

#4 Moffat was a helluva good individual show writer, but I really hated his showrunning. I gave it a few seasons, but faded away at the end of Matt Smith's run. The whole Pandorica thing was clumsily forwshadowed & felt a little forces when it came, but Rory's character evolution into The Last Centurion was much needed & 100% turned him from a somewhat lackluster and whiny sidekick (to a sidekick) into a standalone hero and companion who deserved to be there side-by-side with Amy and the Doctor.

I loved Moffat's writing of individual episodes and how the seasons seemed to have an overall plot. I'd take Moffat back any day over Chibnall. At least with Moffat, it was fun.

Once you have things to lose, the idea is that you don't want to lose them so you become conservative. But Millenials have so little of the wealth, that loads of us are ready to burn the system down.

It is a way for boomers to try to convince themselves and you that their catastrophic voting patterns in the 80’s were justified. They knew they were throwing away the rights their parents fought so desperately for. They knew they were stealing your future for lower fuel and luxury prices and, most important, lower taxes (taxes already lower than any other first world country). They didn’t care then and don’t want you mad now because people hate taking responsibility for their selfishness.

But what Boomers don’t get is their greed-driven choices have killed those traditional paths to wealth for younger generations and that shift to more conservative attitudes is not gonna happen.

If you are 42 you remember politicians warning your parents your entire life the policies being implemented were going to destroy the working class and boomers children and grandchildren. They overwhelmingly voted Regan twice and Bush Sr and various other trickle down policies for tax cuts anyways. Turns out a country can only steal from themselves for so long before there’s no more bottom to go. For America that was one generation.
