High maintenance? Pop a can and grab a plastic spoon? My dog eats a raw diet I have shipped in from Ft Lauderdale and I usually have to feed it to him from my hand. He then gets a chicken neck cut into pieces to clean his teeth.
Pate... yuck. In my experience most cat like chunky wet food with gravy, instead of pate.
But ALSO, most bowls have rims that are too high. When the cat dips close to get to the food, whiskers brush up against the rim... and they don't like that, because they're for sizing up spaces to crawl through. It's a different use. The conflict bugs them. Try a very shallow dish or a plate.
Buy "shreads" instead of Pâté. Get a flat plate, or one with less curve. Set the dish in a different spot than their water. Also, you could try transitioning, mix the dry and wet foods together for a bit. If your vet is suggesting your cat be on wet foods because he doesn't drink enough water, it could be because of the location of the water dish, and try a fountain. For awhile our high maintenance cats would only drink from the faucet.
Fountains are a game changer for cats. I'd even say they're essential for hydration and kidney health. When I didn't have one, the water dish was getting filled about twice a week, but the fountain had to be refilled almost every day.
That really depends on the cats.. most will love the moving water of a fountain... ours had a fountain and it was a mixed result. At some point... when the 5th pump died on us... we tried shallow water bowls - the cats liked it and drank... we have to refill / replace the water bowl twice to three times a day.
Flat faces need flat plates. My mom arranged the food in small pieces in a strip on a flat plate. She thinks they don't like wet food on their whiskers and/or they don't like the whiskers bent to the side of the round bowl, as it interferes with the whisker nerves in the lower and upper lips when they eat.
Exactly. I think this person knows exactly what they're doing as well. They will be getting likes etc for this video on whatever platform it was found on.
Whiskers are extremely sensitive hairs with a lot of nerve input. Too much stimulation to them makes a cat want to both eat and drink less as their whiskers are constantly brushing against the edges of a bowl.
It is - kinda - a thing, but that bowl is pretty flat AND.. if he's eating dry food out of that bowl - and i see no reason he wouldn't be - then its not that, because it would also happen then. Its just a cat being a cat.

Have they tried raising the bowl ?
dixxienormus
Teach him how to fly across the room to where his food bowl is. He will fly all by himself.

This calls for a robotic arm and gripping attachment to gather spoonfuls of food to present to Gus.

A robotic arm with gripping attachment you say....

I will not stoop to eat wet food. It is beneath me.

I've hand fed my little 14 lb dog for ten years now. He is not food motivated. But he'll eat out of my hand.

Gus has an attitude and you better step up to the plate, Dad.

Cats don't like their whiskers hitting the side of the bowl, dip****. Use a ****ing plate.

People don't like being called names, dipshit. Use some fucking manners.
Why do people have to be such assholes?

He could try a flat plate. This cat only eat soup from bowles obviously.

a shallow elevated bowl might help too

Except if he's eating dry food out of the same bowl that makes no sense.

Particularly with a flat faced cat, it's a must.

Ok, what is whisker stress? They don't like their whiskers touching things is all? I had no idea this was a thing. Poor kitty.

My cats don't like smooshing their face in paté food. I make little pyramids or squares, and separate them in a plate. Then they eat it.
AgamemnonsMemes
WIth a flat faced cat, this is probably a really good idea.
VodkaReindeer
They should make a PEZ dispenser for cats.
