Installed in the year 1410, this 600 year old clock in the city of Prague.
JupitersWitch
I need this photo in my living room. God that's gorgeous.

I was just there two weeks ago!
squintobean
How did you get a shot of it without hundreds of people everywhere. I stood there for like 30 minutes tying to get a clear shot.

I am helping with a video game right now with a time traveling space ship and we used this clock for the theme of our ship!

As an American, I envy this level of engineering. America just seems to copy and cut corners (Except for NASA). Our auto industry for exam
TrueGreenman
I remember a fantasy novel where this clock was a McGuffin. I still have to read the last part, but I forgot the name.

Anathem? I mean I couldn't get through the first 200 pages of description of this clock, so not sure if it is the same book.
Don't think so. The main character was a girl, not a guy
asthmatherapeutics
The city is beautiful too
WamBamLesbianJam
It is incredibly beautiful in person

Another old planetarium that is worth anyones time is the Eisinga Planetarium in Franeker, the Netherlands. It is expected to be UNESCO ...

Still on my bucket list
somewhere in the coming 2 years. Perfectly accurate since 1781. And VERY pretty.

Called "Orloj" in czech language.
LillyPepperoni
Haha I'm from Czech R. It's nice to see that you like this stuff from my land!

Been there, seen that. Prague is a beautiful city, especially Charles Bridge, the castle and the Old Town. Plus #INXS #NeverTearUsApart
bluedragon93
I stayed in the hotel across from this clock back in July. If I lifted myself out the bathroom window and craned my neck I could see it
Also every hour there are figures that rotate through the windows at the top. Very cool.
Whiplash1986
Interesting fact - The city of Prague gouged out the maker's eyes once he completed this because they didn't want another city to have one.
thechelonianshelmet
Was he called Goldeneyes Silverhand Dactylos by any chance
TheOnlyThingThatsLeftToDoIsGetAnotherRoundInAtTheBar
Then he jumped in it and broke it and nobody knew how to fix it for a while

Just looked it up and apparently its not true

Very cool that's it's still operating, but it's super underwhelming
fuop
It's so underwhelming that they put a dude playing a trumpet after the hour change so people know it ended. People would keep staring up.
Hostoja
I have seen that damn clock! So that means I have been in Prague. My memory decays ;c
Randombastard360
And for bonus point: Q: The reason the Church was interested in astronomy? A: To accurately place the date of Easter each year.
Allofyoush
We have progressed.
YodasLeftEar

It seems odd to me that the dark ages were only 600 years ago. That doesn't actually seen like a very long time
ILikeCharmanderOk
The Muslim world is still there lol.
Durnstaros
Dark ages is often considered to be a bit earlier than that, but regardless we have advanced at an astonishing rate.
MachineInterface
The canonical dark ages go from about 500 to 1000AD; after that it's the high middle ages which the majority of historians today do not 1/
see as a period of decline or obscurantism. Futhermore, some argue that the dark ages really started before the fall of Rome, with the 2/
crisis of the 3rd century, and that the decline largely ended by 600 BC, so actually only a century after the fall of Rome. So according 3/
to historians, the dark ages, if such a notion has validity, ended 1000 to 1400 years ago, not 600.

With a toy tank that has a dildo for a gun!
Predicto
I took a classy girl on a first date in high school. We went to a Euro Art movie called Montenegro. A tank like that was part of the film
Followed by the most awkward, utterly silent drive home that ever happened.
The movie got great reviews. I thought I was being so sophisticated suggesting it. I still cringe
Hahaha sounds like time well spent! One date or did it go further?
