As a single person, i take it out when it starts getting ripe if it's not full yet. As a kid we took it out nightly.

Family of 6, we use a small bin. Can confirm 2 or 3 times a day it goes out. I have super strong sense of smell, can't keep a large bin

I guess it depends on the size of your garbage, how sensitive you are, and how much you're tossing.
