Wow
We are Venom
Holllllyyyy shit
The new Venom trailer has just gave me goosebumps like I haven’t felt in a long time.
It has officially just put to rest all the doubts anyone had about Tom Hardys ability to play the anti-hero.
Looks like they’ve got it spot on.... almost. The animation for Venom is always going to be difficult to nail due to his viscous form. If you can overlook the slightly lacking and slightly cheesy animation of Venom then you’re in for a treat. I love how they are giving more attention to the inner struggle of the symbiotic relationship between Venom/Eddie Brock. The battle to kill or not to kill and the compromise
The quotes “Why would we do that?” And “We can do whatever we want” made my jaw drop.
I have been searching but can’t find out who is voicing Venom but he sounds bloody epic, it almost sounds like Tony Todd (Candyman) that would be perfect casting. His voice is surreal. Erik LaRay Harvey (Luke Cage, Boardwalk Empire) would be a great choice too.
Also there is a scene where a man is being experimented on and there seems to be a very “red” atmosphere. Could this be Carnage? There also seems to be a woman guinea pig hmmmm toxin?
I’m really looking forward to this one.

The plot seems pretty generic, and the trailer was kinda cliche, but I'm holding out hope.
Matchburn
Not sure if anyone has already posted this but according to an article on ign Tom Hardy does the voice for venom.
ShadowSeven
whatupcorgibutt
Well that is absolutely terrifying
BramStocker
finally! a good movie of venom
cookie404
I didn't have an issue with Hardy's acting, it's the story writing and producing that had me skeptical
GabinoMorales
All the symbiotic characters will always look off cause they’re nearly impossible to recreate, unless you want a rubber suit like spawn.
horsetoe8
Ampersandzer0
Possibly carnage and shriek. Dont even know if kasady is the main baddy. I really dont like how they pronounce it sym-bi-oat in the trailer
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
I'm so happy someone else knows about shriek. Does my dorky heart good
SecretAgentSuperDragon
FINALLY A PROPER VENOM!
bitemyshiny
This is how I feel customers see me whenever I say “I am the manager”
MexicanHandOff
Tom Hardy actually did the voice.
Chemical73
Yeah, I figured that aswell from his "accent"
DontTazeMeBrah
Thge CG not the best but man the voice is awesome
Tabrias
I thought sony learned their lesson about making dark and gritty capeshit movies. I love tom hardy but this is gonna be hot garbage.
CyrilConnolly
HibiscuitsTea
Tom Hardy makes me sploosh. Holy fuck hes hot
DegenerateCrotchFruit
Yeah they need to update that animation lol
TheClassicOldMate
Just my opinion, but the CGI looks preeeetty bad.
imeanYUUUGE
If the last few years of movie trailers have taught me anything, there’s a 98% chance none of those scenes will make it to the final cut.
ShowMeYourPitties
I don't think it's terrible, just unfinished. Can't say why they put it in a trailer though. Hopefully it will get polished quite a bit.
kirmokum
you're only going to see so much improvement. they're not going to scrap all their look dev at this point.
Tubolts
OP, From what I've heard, the Symbiote's voiced by Tom Hardy as well.
ProteusRMontenegro
RealScienceMan
Hmmm that's an interesting take on Venom's origin, looks good though.
paintitred22
Still looks like a fan made trailer to me
iLynux
Why?
FranticForfeit
It honestly reminds me of the Eric Bana Hulk. Same/similar CGI, and the whole "bad government man" plot.
IdleHeart101
IT OFFICIALY PUTS TO REST ALL DOUBTS AVOUT BLAH BLAH BLAH shut the fuck up
captbananapants
Little more length and definition on the gif
v
ArtOzz
...Alright that does look pretty good, and I fucking love Hardy.
SanKa13
Hardy is my bro crush
ArtOzz
Im bi and Id hit that.
SanKa13
Im straight and id hit that
kingofusersub
I love Hardy but I don't like the accent he's using I need a more gruffy accent from him
CyrilConnolly
Yeah, you are right. He needs a darker muffled voice while wearing a mask.
iamthisguy247
Watching this trailer was the first time I got excited about this movie. It legitimately looks good.
Vacationdad
Same here. First trailer didn't grab me but this is awesome.
LincLoud
Except for how the girl who played Mona-Lisa Sapperstein says Symbiote as Sim-BYE-Oat.
jmpaten
I love Tom Hardy, but something about his voice really bothers me in this preview. It’s got a hitch or gets really high occasionally?
LincLoud
It looks good but there is one flaw, Venom doesn't exist without Spiderman. I know it's just a movie but the comics had the order of ->
LincLoud
events as Spiderman gets black suit, learns black suit is living alien that wants to use him, loses suit, Brock finds suit and becomes Venom
socratesboytoy
THANK YOU this is stupid. Peter almost kills himself getting rid of it. And it literally falls on Brock. They fuse because of mutual hatred.
socratesboytoy
AND it only fuses to peter because it could tell he was powerful. So basically is theres no spidey. Theres no venom.
LincLoud
Exactly. There is a symbiote but no Venom. The concept of Venom was retribution towards Spiderman for ruining Brock's life and ->
LincLoud
abandoning the symbiote when it thought it found the best possible host; in Spiderman
socratesboytoy
Yupyup. Without that i doubt the symbiote wouldnt have seen brock as a very good host. Carnage chooses cassidy because he was a vicious
WilliamElse
Yes, also the whole look of Venom is from being Spidey's suit. That's why his eyes are that shape etc.
LincLoud
Valid point. Venom modeled himself after Spider-man but more to show what he could be and then in rage for not being chosen
jaaaassephhhh

growing up with a Chicago accent, we always accepted Sim-Be-Yit in our home.
hawkesnightmare
Central IL here, sim-bee-oat.
AnthonyBlumpkins
Yeah this bugs me. It's "SIM-bee-oat." This is directly from the mouth of Stan Lee.
heartlessninja6
Is that album by Simon & Garfunkel, or Hall and Oates?
RoseTheSpecialEdTeacher
Glad I wasn't the only one that bothered.
ILiekrocks
That lady's pronunciation gave me the last airbender vibes
TheBlackBolt
I thought it was just her accent. I wanted to hear other people say it just to make sure it was unique to her
nickdillinger
SIM-BI-OAT
Icamehereforcatsandpuns
I think it's the same actress https://m.popkey.co/37c75d/E87Qy.gif
heartlessninja6
It is. Maybe we’ll get Rebel Wilson as the CEO.
Zephyr86
The what vibes? I'm sorry, I have no recollection of that word you said.
YamatoIouko
How was your trip to Lake Laogai?
Sooothisonethyme
OMG. Yes.
ilovecake
Of symbiote? I cringed every single time I heard her say it.
goddammitnappa
That was literally the only problem I had with this. And tbh I can probably live with it, if its not said overly much
Nikagor
Why is she even allowed to say it like this, is there some stupid freaking trademark that is not allowing her to say it right?
PocketVist
"we... Are... Venom" goddamn, still curious when the carnage will come
TheBlackBolt
I think we actually do see Carnage in the trailer. If you recall that black guy who is restrained and being tested on and the red colours...
TheBlackBolt
There is also a woman who seems to go berserk. Maybe both carnage and toxin make an appearance?
Bricklemeyer
Id rather they didn't. That's way too many important characters introduced in one movie.
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
Toxin was a dude but maybe. Might be Scream but that's pretty obscure so maybe not
RLTNY
I got a feeling they're the symbiotes from Lethal Protector since Jenny Slate's character kept mentioning them. Also Venom gives birth 1/2
RLTNY
to Carnage and was never in the possession of any scientific study if I recall 2/2
ElbowDeepinaTinyOctopus
I think it's a fool's errand to rely on comic book histories when looking at their cinematic counterparts.
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
He was in a fairly recent publication. We get a female carnage and a new host who ends up calling herself Scorn
Fetaguy
Legit that was an underwhelming trailer. Could be good could be bad
Alexanderhelios
A lot of the dialogue was pretty basic too. "The guy you work for is an evil person.""I don't work for him my firm does."
StaalTheNotQuiteSoUndefeatedAnymoreButNevermind
Found it oddly generic, with no voice of itself. Except for the Venom scene, it could be for a slew of other movies, IMO.
SincerelyHated
It's already a travesty just due to location of San Francisco.
Melandru
Like, legit, look up "Upgrade 2018" trailer and tell me the kitchen scene doesn't remind you of Tom Hardy's own reaction to Venom
SethCronyn
Nikagor
Honestly, it looks more like prototype than Venom, I love Ven and Carnage, but I don't see him as an antihero.
JuanCena
Agreed—but then these trailers are meant to be generic. Spider-Man Homecoming was pretty generic in trailers but ended up a solid movie
Rashim
I think your comment needs more upvotes. They are trying to appeal to a large audience who might not know all 24 symbiote back stories...
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
Which are some of my fav spiderman comics
JuanCena
Thank you kindly. I just always try to remember these movies are products meant for consumption—not life changing epics. Calm ya tits y’all

LincLoud
Same. It felt like she was saying it for the first time in her life. SIM-BYE-OAT. No, it's sim-bee-yote. The process of their combination->
LincLoud
is a symbiotic relationship, hence its name.
PersonalDildo
Honestly feels like a remake of Spawn the way they use Venom's powers in this one
chaoticbinary
isn't the voice actor for venom the same for spawn in the animated series
deadpoolsdong
DuggFunnie
I'm fairly confident the whole post is just an advertisement astroturf disguised as a regular post. Just re-read the language and format.
Belgiandude
lol, my first thought as well. I mean, really how can anyone get excited with that trailer lol.
shhep
Why would the ever do that. Generic plot and people are still shitting from joy. There's no need to put in any effort, really.
Brentttt
People lap this samey super hero shit up.
Rengii
Such a safe and generic plot. Would have been fun to see a movie where the protagonist is a true, unapologetic villian.
frogglesmash
But that wouldn't really be an accurate portrayal of the character.
Nikagor
Would it be thought? I mean yes venom kinda feeds of the person its attatched to, but I never got a "antihero" vibe from the symbiot itself.
YaBoyJohnorrhea
This movie isn't just about the symbiote though. Seems they're doing a lot with the inner struggle of the symbiote and Eddie.
frogglesmash
Venom tends to only want to kill spiderman, he doesn't really go out of his way to kill randomly, that's more in line with Carnage's MO.
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
If this was Toxin then I would agree with you. However, early Venom (eddie brock) really wanted to fuck up Spider-Man
frogglesmash
And basically only Spiderman. Venom's less villainous when Spidey isn't involved.
Noodlesocks
It's going to be one of those movies where we only see venom a few seconds at a time before going back to actor face.
Kronzor
I'd say you don't pay Tom Hardy money to an actor to put a mask on him the whole time...but they already did that with the dark knight rises
Noodlesocks
And Dredd with Karl Urban. Speaking for myself; If I'm watching a character movie I want to see the character, not the actor playing them.
Deleteded
Not that I really followed the comics, most of my Spider-Man came from the cartoons. But I always thought he was a villian not an anti-hero
UnremarkablyInteresting
I think he teamed up with Spiderman at one point to fight carnage.
Chawillionaire
Eddie always thought of himself as a hero when he was turned into Venom, he and the symbiote just reeeeeeaaaaaallly hated spiderman
DJThuglifeSupreme
His villany was based around Spider-Man, if memory serves. Like he would commit crimes to get Spidey's attention to fight him
ShieldAnvil1
He is spiderman except he kills the bad guy and hates spiderman, very basic but sums it up
drakewarnock
He mostly likes to crush skulls and eat brains, but he does occasionally crushes the skulls and eats the brains of bad people.
heartlessninja6
Good guy who ate people so
AnthonyBlumpkins
Well, Eddie Brock isn't evil, he's just a bit immoral sometimes. As Venom, he will act out of selfishness but he's not a killer of innocents
macthelost
Essentially he was like Spider-Man but without the conscious. He would just kill the bad guys and be done with it. Also tries to kill spidey
macthelost
*Conscience
Ihavewaytoomanyfavoritestosort
Then Carnage showed up and even Venom was like "dude chill"
kojenk
Would he considered more of an anti villain?
kojenk
Would he be*
TheGreyReality
venom believes in justice for the innocent. he has a similar mentality of the punisher. venom looks to kill the guilty. that's an anti-hero.
pareidoliaperson
"Where's my wife you symbiote freak!" - "You can but you can't RUN!"
SgtThunderfistMD
Either you die a vilian or live long enough to see enough people love you too become an anti hero.
KingKrown
Popularity turns villains into Antiheroes. Venom,Deadpool,Deathstroke,Harley Quinn even..
AnotherStrangerOnTheInternet
There's a really fun one-and-done comic where venom has an alignment shift and becomes chaotic good. He destroys a bank to prevent it from..
AnotherStrangerOnTheInternet
...being robbed. Can't rob a bank if there is no bank to be robbed!
TheRealPascha
There were multiple symbiotes, the original venom (which this one seems to be) was a villian. He did help take down a worse symbiote though.
dodiegirl
What is the difference?
tlouman
Spiderman is a hero, Kratos an anti-hero
FallenTurtles
A villain's motivations are bad, violent, evil, etc. An anti-hero generally has good intentions, but goes about it in "bad" ways.
BojanglesTheFlyingCar
It bonded with Peter and he found it made him more ruthless so he tried to get rid of it.Symbiote was like a scorned lover.
fappingforfreedom
Yeah I’m surprised nobody is mad that they abandoned the origin story, does look like a cool movie tho
dietderpsy
He is literally the anti hero when merged with Spider-Man
Shockandawmanwasthatdissapointing
Venom was a villian at first but that changes over time. First change I believe is when he joined the Thunder Bolts
mahanaha
He is meant to be but I assume they thought it would make more money this way cause it's just easier to sell you feel?
Killertortilla
The Symbiotes were actually originally created to be a universal peace keeping force. I don't remember what fucked them up.
cgriff18
I believe the real villain is Carnage.
ThisismyconfessionTherearemanylikeitButthisoneismine
Villain turned anti-hero. Like Deadpool.
holliday0
Was hoping to see this here. Thank you for not disappointing!
TheShadowsLengthen
...Deadpool was a villain at some point ?
WehWehWeh
His early solo comics were mostly about his change from villain to anti-hero iirc.
SomethingSomethingDickbutt
Dude he killed like all of marvel in one series
BojanglesTheFlyingCar
Always a mercenary.
JamesProton
Yup, or at least full on mercenary. He didn't care who he worked for as long as he got paid.
mofreckle
He kinda had a sickening disregard for the value of life, killing anyone really, but his murdery side has been toned down massively
Vaeevictiss
I didn't think he ever really killed anyone innocent. Aside from the whole everyone in the marvel universe thing.
DJThuglifeSupreme
He debuted as a villain in X Men, and had his first run of comics he was no hero. Certainly not what he is today
numbonvalium
He started off as a straight up copy of Deathstroke, Mercenary for hire that did bad shit for bad people.
apocalyptic0n3
It was a blatant copy, too. Costume, general skills, and even name (Deadpool vs Deathstroke, Wade Wilson vs Slade Wilson).
numbonvalium
yeah, DC and Marvel are full of characters they straight up rip from the other one.
Lambdafish1
Did you not watch X-Men origins?
blazera
That's on the "pretend it didn't happen" list. Like the Avatar movie
PewPewBulletBulletGun
But the blue alien was cool, why would say that
GadenKerensky
Yeah. But they decided people would like him more as a chaotic anti-hero. Once upon a time, he was a mass murderer.
GodEmperorOfImgur
I mean... he still is, but now he's mass murders the right people (most of the time).
Superkroot
There's a comic where he kills the entire marvel universe.
ScaryScarab
Iirc wasn’t he originally Marvel’s equivalent to “Deathstroke” ?
GadenKerensky
Yeah, a parody thereof too.
MundaneFinality
Eddie broke is currently anti-venom, an antihero who uses a mr-negative-inverted version of the symbiote to cure cancer. Flash thompson 1/3
MundaneFinality
2/3 currently has the original symbiote, and is trying to reform the symbiote itself while acting as agent venom, a hero. Last I saw he 3/3
MundaneFinality
3/3 was a member of the guardians of the galaxy.
Contra3IsTheHardestGameEver
Hes not a villaij anymore. Not since the aciddent.
THRAWN18
He believed that Spiderman was a villain. As far back as his first appearances he would avoid hurting others, such as MJ and Aunt May
THRAWN18
His first appearance he literally is alone with MJ in the apartment and leaves without touching her, and in his second appearance, has lunch
THRAWN18
With Aunt May. Some time later he even meets the parents of Peter Parker (won't go down that shit road) and kidnaps them but doesn't harm
THRAWN18
In his second appearance, he kills a guard at the jail he's in and kisses his head and asks for forgiveness. Then hitchhikes with a family
THRAWN18
In short he has a twisted idea of who is the villain and who is innocent, but he absolutely despised Carnage who was just psychopathic
TheBlackBolt
Yeah same here. He was mostly a villain but I loved him and I loved those moments when he did a good deed (very rare) but it happened
SincerelyHated
He's been "good" for a while now. (At least while partnering with Eddie Brock)
RiftSkipper
I would claaify as anti-villian, cause he still does some pretty evil shit, at least when I stopped reading... Good god, 5 years ago
RiftSkipper
Fuck I'm old, I need to go find me some comics to read
SincerelyHated
Yeah he recently just took the symbiote back from Lee Pierce (ex army ranger) who was a much, uhh, eviler antihero than Brock ever was..
j00niz
Btw, totally unrelated but it's Hardy doing the Venom voice!^^
Respond
Shit, one time Venom and Spider-man teamed up to destroy Carnage.
MGGimgur
Carnage is some next level evil, though.
mpangelu
It depends on where you are in comics. Venom has had several non villain runs . From anti hero that’s more like spawn living with homeless/1
thatguy73
Eddie's moral compass was a little askew. His philosophy is more like the Punishers. I like Venom because he "protects" innocents
mpangelu
To the part where flash Thompson takes the symbiote and becomes Agent Venom and tries to be an actual hero working with the captain /2
iputthefiresout
Depends on when in the timeline you're talking and who had the symbiot
Respond
This, It depends on the host that Venom takes over.
Reezimus
"Depends on the timeline...." jesus just like all comics.
PoppinLochNessHopster
I mean, yeah, it's not like they're nonfiction stories, if the only thing stopping them from making cool stories is continuity, fuck it imo.
Reezimus
I hear you, but I like a story to have continuity and a plot with a beginning and end. Then move on to something else. To each their own.
PowwerOrb13
I mean, they do. Arcs start, progress, and end. Continuity within an arc, but no so much between them
iputthefiresout
Or, you know, most stories. It's Saruman good or bad? Depends. Is Anakin good or bad? Depends
Reezimus
Were specifically talking about how Comics play with alternate timelines/realities. LoTR does not have that.
iputthefiresout
And I said "when in the timeline" not which.
Reezimus
Interpretation of being good or bad isnt the point.
garnic24127001
I think he means when is Anakin good or bad? Which would depend on which part of the story your currently on.
IPostRandomStuffFromComicsIRead
He was a villain turned anti-hero turned hero turned villain turned anti-hero.
IPostRandomStuffFromComicsIRead
Keep in mind, Venom is the symbiote. His personality can change just as much as it can change the person it is attached to.
IPostRandomStuffFromComicsIRead
When he was with Flash Thompson, he was a hero cleansed of all his evil
IPostRandomStuffFromComicsIRead
Then Lee Price (murderer) turned him evil again
IPostRandomStuffFromComicsIRead
Now Eddie Brock has him back and he's an anti-hero again.
RatherRunWhenYouCantCrawl
He was the villain in the spiderman game I played as a kid.
CliftonSantiago
There was a Spiderman/Venom co-op game for SNES called Maximum Carnage that had this badass red cartridge. Carnage was the villain.
Capzter
If you're referring to the old spiderman game for ps1, Vemon actually turns good around the end of the game?
UsernameNeededPleaseProvide
The ps1 game where the floor was covered in fog?
11imagealbum
I loved that game
KnightWang
But he was one of the heroes in the Spiderman games I played as a kid! (Separation Anxiety for the Genesis)
wormfood
There was a brawler on genesis where it was Spider-Man/Venom co op
KnightWang
Yep! That's Separation Anxiety. At least for the Genesis, it might have been different on the SNES.
tanebou
He was a villain. Marvel turned him Anti-Hero a while ago tho.
SaltyInternetPirate
Why is an bad guy who only kills bad guys called an anti-hero, rather than an anti-villain? I mean, he's no hero, but he's not against them.
Deleteded
It isn't anti as in against. The term means a protagonist in a story that lacks the traditional heroic qualities like morality, honor etc.
ShieldAnvil1
Anti hero means he is a hero who does not fit the hero stereotype. He is the hero of the movie but lacks traditional heroic quality.
SaltyInternetPirate
By that logic Doctor Doom would be an anti-villain.
sdfq3gb23gb423g2
Ozymandias in Watchmen is an anti-villain. He's the antagonist, but his evil deeds have noble consequences.
sdfq3gb23gb423g2
i guess i mean the distinction that answers your question might be more in the protagonist-antagonist perspective, rather than good-bad guy.
Torbarian
Doctor Doom is not in any category with anyone else he is above categorization because no one is like Doom.
nicouk
*DOOM!
Basoes
I mean in the past sure, but not now, he's full blown hero/ anti-hero as the new Iron-Man
SaltyInternetPirate
I don't follow the comics. Not that I could. There's so damn many of them, and I'm only interested in a few.
DickDastardly404
He was defo a villain when I was reading the comics. Literally venom was so strong peter had to take him to a desert island and convince 1/2
DickDastardly404
Venom he’d killed spiderman by faking his own death. Venom then stayed on the island “in peace” and had a lot of time to think. That 1.5/2
DickDastardly404
Said, when Carnage eventually turned up, spiderman actually went and found venom again, explained what he had done and why, and asked 1.75/2
DickDastardly404
For Venom’s help to beat Carnage. Venom had mellowed out towards Pete by then, and agreed to assist, and afaik took a new nemesis 1.875/2
DickDastardly404
In the form of the Carnage symbiote, since the Venom symbiote found Carnage’s crimes far more heinous than peters rejection. 2/2
Saltyisthesea
Calm your tits. It could still be a shit movie.
jaericho
well, it is done by Sony.
DorthLous
Sony alone, no Marvel in fact.
dbn2408
it looks fucking awful lol
LincLoud
True, there is no connection to Spiderman made at all in the trailer and to me, Venom doesn't exist without Spiderman
YaBoyJohnorrhea
I don't think it would be good if they just jumped straight into venom v spiderman. If it was a spiderman movie maybe.
LincLoud
Kind of my point. They should have had finished the Spidey movie with Peter getting that freelance photographer job and running into Brock->
LincLoud
which would have laid the ground work for a Venom movie because you could have shown Peter taking Brock's jobs and Spider-man ruining his->
LincLoud
life so when Peter abandons the symbiote, it bonds with Eddie and Eddie learns that he doesn't have 2 enemies, he has 1.
