Because of all the tax exemptions those rich guys get from conservatives since at least Reagen and their "trickle down economy" idea ? One of the few working things Trump did was a 1% tax reduction that practically only affected rich people after all. They only CAN go after people who DON'T pay their taxes... but if the law allows you to pay (almost) 0$ than they have nothing against you.

Right like a multi-billion dollar stadium which gives all it's profits to a billionaire who don't have to pay a penny. Meanwhile home values skyrocket so the working class can barely afford a place to live and if you are fortunate enough to own something property taxes go up 200, 300, 400% every year. We're taxed on every dollar that comes into our hands through federal taxes and every dollar that leaves our hands through sales tax. Not to mention if you can't afford to pay they triple w fees

Think of it this way, a lot of people do not like to be told no or to think they are wrong. So when they go to a meeting and are told something that goes against what they think, a lot of people will make it the hill they will die on instead of admitting defeat and moving on.

First is the Petitioner's Section, where you can speak about anything you want, other than the agenda items up for Public Hearing later that night. The town hall scenes always had me half laughing and half cringing. My father was a city councilman for 2 years and refused to run again because it was not worth the small boost to his ego.

My hometown rallied behind the town sherif a few years ago after a councilman and his son and friends (cops on the force) had a corruption scandal blow up.
Councilman wanted to forcibly remove sherif, sherif got rid of the crooked cops (councilman son and his buddies). Year long thing.
