Ok First of all, that's a USMC KC-130s refueling two USMC CH-53 helicopters.

Navy and Marine Corps aircraft use the Hose with the basket trailing from the aircraft while the Air Force uses the hard boom plug-in.

HOWEVER, the new KC-46 tanker will be capable of supplying both the probe and drogue (basket) method AND boom methods of refueling.

Our refueling 130s most certainly do use drogues (trailing basket things) and both the USAF and the USMC have 53s (the helicopter pictured)

Occasionally, but from my experience(KC-135 engine mechanic) the navy tends to help themselves more. Most of our basket refuels are non-US

Well I am always appreciative of my 135 jet troops. But I'm a 135 Boom, the Navy relies on us way more than non-US. Deployed and locally.
