To be fair to the squirrel, I have pretty much the same reaction when a staff member sees me taking a 'free sample' from the bulk candy bins at the grocery store.
Lol, I saw something very similar once. At my apartment, we put out garbage cans right outside of our front doors. One morning I opened the door, and a squirrel was looking into the garbage can, but he got spooked and ran INTO the can and the lid flopped close and he went insane for like 2 seconds, just like this, and then blasted out and flew like 25 feet before he touched the ground!
Though, given they returned here probably several thousand times in order to fill it, I don't think they forgot about this cache. The humans simply emptied it before they could be eaten.
Last summer there was a squirrel that would sit on top of one of my backyard fence posts while my dog would just bark at it. People told me I was crazy when I said I thought the squirrel was taunting my dog. Then one day my dog was going crazy barking and trying to climb a tree in the backyard. She has NEVER tried to climb a tree before this. So I went out there and could hear this really loud chittering. I went to the tree and looked and there was this same squirrel bouncing up and down (1)
on a tree branch chittering away. It saw me and stopped. I walked away and it stayed quiet until my dog went to lay in her normal spot under the tree. The squirrel started right back up causing my dog to go crazy again. A little while later I brought my dog inside for the day and the squirrel ran off. This went on for over a week every single day. This squirrel was literally taunting my dog. (2)
Before my ex took the dog and left, I was outside with her (the dog) one day and this squirrel straight squared up. Like, it just stood there while the dog lost her shit. I tried to scare the squirrel away but wouldn't budge. I gave up and went back inside (with the dog, of course).
Squirrels are territorial in mating season, and aggressive to outsiders. It was not taunting your dog it was trying to scare it off. Predators dont like it when they get spotted and will leave as the little noise machine will hinder hunting. So naturally they leave. Dog is a predator but has no way to leave, squirrel brain too small to understand this and keeps yapping.

So were they already eaten or still whole?
OmegaKamidake
Stored still so probably uneaten, squirrels have a habit of forgetting where they store things

Squirrels are assholes and I would be willing to bet the second squirrel in this video scared the first one on purpose. (3)
