Just basic racing Go-carts was what we were using (it was the winter race series), but it wouldn't need to be a fancy cart, just tires with super-short sheet metal screws in them - the same kind you use in shoes to make studded winter running shoes.

I think it's a "Shifter" kart. probably has just a couple gears to deal with the low torque at low RPM they normally have.

could be made safe enough with the right precautions. personally would like a group of 3-4 so that its more likely to spot eachother if something does happen, and someone can go get help while one remains to help. everyone havving a tool to break the ice with and some rope, and staying to an area where you checked the ice is about all you can do though and should render things quite safe.

I admire the confidence but rivers usually have currents that would take you under the ice very quickly. The at being said, I would totally still do this. That looks fun as hell.

Well id say not safe for kids playing on the river the driver missed...if they didnt notice/slipped, he cant really turn fast enough

10 20 30 miles or klms per hour speed will hurt you in someway if you crash into the trees, shrubs, rocks, ice etc.
