Ok. I’m going to get downvoted again. But…..They have always investigated direct threats and even veiled threats, depending on the current climate, socially and politically. The agent conducted himself professionally, asked appropriate questions in the scope of doing his job of investigating the situation, and also ended it respectfully and appropriately. He was uncomfortable and polite. That was a best case interaction. No one escalated, her responses were respected and it ended correctly.

They have NOT. But this HAS been happening, on and off, for decades now. Which is the problem with this kind of thing, even well intentioned it becomes a creeping ratchet toward more and more speech being grounds for investigation when an agency that is EXPLICITLY incentivized toward maximum caution and minimum risk is making the decisions. Never mind what happens with the current environment.

Like, I see what you're saying, but it's less what the agent is doing himself and the basic justification they're saying is the cause, and more about the likelihood that its intimidation dressed up as an investigation, with the agent likely all too aware he's being used as a tool for that and uncomfortable with it.

While i get what you mean, unless they have tens of thousands of these agents going around the US on a daily basis it seems wild that they came to check on someone who posted "When Karoline Leavitt gets what she deserves, I hope it's televised." I see infinitely more direct threats regularly. Considering the increase in calls from one specific side to police free speech, this is still definitely problematic. Especially the agents answers of why in regards to questions is "I'm just curious"

Televised government, hearings and trials would certainly be first in my mind, not sure when I last saw a televised execution. Considering the information they had on her it doesn't line up in any way with those that have politically murdered or attempts that have been made in recent years, so again, this is only acceptable if they have tens of thousands of agents going around, because I see much more direct threats on officials on a regular basis, including from other officials.

If they can show some consistency (which is generally the problem with police, federal investigations, etc.), perhaps some information on their investigations, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it. They definitely need to work on the script and the reasoning given for questions. 'im just curious' has no place in official questioning, it makes me think they have about as much training as the new ICE recruits, and by that I mean absolutely none at all.

Are you law enforcement? Because in this case it’s your opinion that it was a threat… but law enforcement shouldn’t care about your opinion either, right? My opinion is that saying, “I hope you get what you deserve,” isn’t a threat. And hypothetical if I was a LEO, and someone told me that’s how I was threatened I’d reply as such. Just like I would tell them that threatening to call police when they see a crime isn’t a threat or telling someone they’ll go to jail for committing a crime isn’t.
