The hull shape is that of a BT-7. I could be wrong, but BT-5s have slopes either side of the hatch, where BT-7s are flatter and broader.

If what you say is true than I’d agree. I can never remember if it’s the model 37 or 7M that has the sleek sloped turret.
Tank Encyclo says all of them. 37 is the turret, 38 is new sights, 39 has a floor hatch, and 7M finally introduces the Kharkiv model V-2.

The drivers hatch on a BT is quite large and fairly easy to open. The bigger danger is him smacking his head on it on impact.
They open outwards, He couldn't open it if the tank was too deep.
But then the other hatch is there to use...

For an early war/pre war light tank I imagine the 45mm it was equipped with was fine. Interwar tanks were thinly armoured garbage.
