I find it interesting that it's often traditional to eat ham on Easter. The day people celebrate the resurrection of a Jewish man.

I know as a kid my family and I would have lamb, maybe someone misheard one day

#17 The term Gotham for New York City actually does come from people calling it goat-ham as a joke back in the day because there were goats roaming all over the place
Feralkyn
I think the ham didn't mean "ham" but that's an interesting factoid hilariously at odds with the "polished dark city" meaning of today lol
SpamYarBlockers
Totally, it was ham as in the town-name suffix derived from hamlet as in village, like Framingham, Waltham, etc

#9 Ya sure that egg is cooked enough? Fuck me.
Ghlargh
I boil my eggs for 10 minutes because i really like them cooked through. They do not look like that.
VTiR
Maybe just left to cool slowly. The iron sulfide condenses around the outside of the yolk and it's time-based (longer cook, or longer cool).
PressthamGravey
That looks like it's been boiled for about 30 minutes.
Ghlargh
I wonder if turtles can be allergic to raw egg protein, in that case it makes total sense to boil it for as long as possible.

#41 this one bothers me since it’s already warHAMmer.
tarwen
If it were a hammer made for war I'd be with you, but it's a warmer made for ham
utmosttimaeus
Sure. I may have missed that on first inspection. Sue me. But it doesn’t change anything. It still bothers me.
tarwen
Haha I didn't think you'd missed it, I get the bother, but I do all kinds of curses and shitposts so to me it's mission accomplished

#11 How can they ensure it's always a double yolk or is this one of those "live to see man-made horrors beyond my comprehension" things I'd be better off not knowing?
Rebelske
Light as ppl are saying, but you can also see it by the shape, it has a little straight part. Once you've seen a lot of them, you just see it.
tarwen
Google tells me you can hold them to a light to see, and that it's not a forced thing, just like how humans can have twins
TrashCanEnthusiast
There's a couple different reasons it can happen naturally, one of them being certain chickens who just always lay doubles. If you're trying to sell these gimmicky eggs you could probably buy up double-layers and breed them.
PubMed12927120suckssobad
Laser scanning. Shows the shape of the yolk, so doubles are easy to tell. Also detects (also easy) if there is a bloodspot, which is why you never see them anymore. The laser quality control was specifically developed to detect the bloodspots since consumers don't like those. The eggs with BS get diverted to, like, industrial cakes and whatnot. They could, I suppose, sell full dozen eggs all with BSs. At Halloween maybe
Ninjainslippers
It's not exactly blood. It's the embryo starting to form. Most eggs aren't fertilized but occasionally one gets knocked up.
PubMed12927120suckssobad
I know what you're talking about, a very early stage embryo, but that's different. Back in the day an occasional egg had an actual blood spot, from a ruptured capillary in the hen's uterus. Google has good pics of both. When we kept layers some of the older hens would slough a little bit of uterine tissue and weed find that in an egg. I did kinda find that a bit nasty
DongleDingler
Man, I hate it when I crack open an egg and it's full of bull shit!
VanessaNelson
Why are you up this early on a Sunday? Come back to bed, @tarwen 😉

Hahaha, it is a bit early for me to dump but who can resist the eggs and ham? 😅

Ah, OK. :) My mistake!

I'm sure they do, but not in this instance

😆 I've never seen one ham meme out in the wild, I don't want to know how you came across all of these 🤣
tarwen
People see ham memes and think of me, that's why I posted earlier today as I was pinged for one 🤣
KrondorMocker
@OP took a ham-fisted approach
