I bet he never thought this would be the outcome of saying yes to Disney's stilly little Lion movie in the 90s. That 30 years later he would be on stage singing one of the songs from it.
I remember the build up to it's release and everyone did expect it to do well...like very well. Go back and look at the actors involved at every level.
However, it's very true that no one expected the overall reaction, a Broadway play, etc. He definitely hit the jackpot.
Because Disney during the 80s had a string of financial flops and the company was actually looking at bankruptcy. It wasn't until they had their massive back to back successes during the 90s that put them back on track.
