Palpatine's plan was to cause distrust in the system to gain power. Then once in power, cause chaos to maintain that power.
Sound familiar?

This place is depressingly stupid. We could have so many nice things.

Well sir orange allegedly believes that if the tariffs leads to a trade war the us will win because they have bigger and better aircraft carriers....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a twist that should surprise nobody, the opposite is actually the case.

The US military dominance has a chilling effect. Under the American umbrella, ally countries can enjoy basic security, knowing that their neighbors won't invade, because that neighbor won't mess with the American guests hosted on a base in the ally's territory.

In a trade war, that hosting gets more tenuous, and even those carriers find themselves diminished when they need longer supply lines.

Everyone watching the Star Wars sequel trilogy: There's no way they'd just let the Empire come back and do nothing about it!
Everyone now: oh...

It's almost like people are cheering for a 25 percent government tax or something

In the end it will do America more harm than good. Trump's first trade war:

Honestly, as of right now? The Trade Wars are among the LEAST of our concerns, disastrous as they may be.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

That's only partially true. It's not as concerning as say an active war is for Ukrainians, but when the economic consequences of this hits Americans it will very much be near the top of our concerns.

Which is why I said "right now." EVERYTHING they are doing at the moment will be a disaster down the line, but there are a number of things we need to address IMMEDIATELY if we want to actually have a 'down the line' to worry about.

That's very accurate and very scary. Let's see what fabricated crisis is in store next week!

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

To clarify, the Trade War is not a fabricated crisis. It's something Trump legitimately thinks is a critical tool of "diplomacy." Which is the problem that is making things worse than they even might have been: they are doing EVERYTHING because they know they can get away with it, so any stupid-ass nonsense that they think will make them richer and more in control is on the table.

In 50 years there will be people denying that it was the United States who started it.

2 years ago | Likes 200 Dislikes 0

There are only to be people in 5 days denying the United States started it.

2 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

Man if only there had been a recent trade agreement by some sort of stable genius that could have rectified the situation. /s

50 years? I give it 50 hours

They will blame DEI

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They're already claiming Canada started it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're doing that now.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is people denying that now. I’m sure of it.

In 50 years, people will be asking if the United States really existed.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Seems awfully optimistic to assume survivors will have the resources to teach history.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I doubt most will even remember. Do you know about the last one US did back in 20th century? The only people that remember are elderly folks that lost their businesses or jobs to it.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Depends on how much this one will escalate. The bigger something grows, the more the blame question becomes a point of contention.

Dude, the SECOND it starts biting them in the ass the MAGAts will start denying that it was them that started it.

2 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

They'll use it as justification to attack one or both of their neighbours

50 years? Here in Trumpville, AZ, that's already happening.
