You can still download delisted games on Steam and even Sony's game division honors this.
I can still download Deadpool, Marvel Alliance, Transformers, and many other desisted games that lost their license on Playstation Network.
So why are movies different?
They are only removing the movies/shows from you online library, so as long as the media is on your system, they cannot remove it, but why remove access as well...

This entire discussion has helped me find what I think is the answer, or at least the difference.
I.E.
The "movies" and "shows"can be streamed or watched off your system.. you're losing access to the "Online library"
While the "games" software cannot be streamed, and HAS to be downloaded to be played.
THIS is probably what they're using as a loophole to deny consumers access to the media they purchased!

The part that really pisses me off (other than no physical disc) is that it automatically includes one month of GTA Online that will auto-renew until canceled. I have no interest in GTA Online, but think of the millions who will get the game, be excited to start playing, and will completely forget to cancel the automatic online recurring subscription.

Friendly (re)minder that GOG sells you the actual game files, so you can DL and install forever, the games can never be taken from you. Steam, Epic, and everywhere else only let you "rent" the games through their app, "promising" they will never take them from you.

The setup is a bit obnoxious but not terrible, and after that it's pretty straightforward to add new media as long as you follow some basic folder naming rules.

Automating the new media part of it is the real game changer, id rather ditch plex and go back to VLC and a laptop with an HDMI cable than give up sonarr and have to download new episodes myself every week and keep track of new seasons these days. Freaking Simpsons just dropped their season finale on a random wednesday six months after the last episode aired. Even without the download scheduling sonarr is as powerful a renaming tool for tv shows as filebot.

If you want to replace streaming with your own stuff yeah you need a library, most users already have content so Plex or Jellyfin or whatever makes for a pretty frontend and simplified remote access. IDK why randos on sketchy forums would be handing out server access, but in that case on your end youd just be running an app on your TV or firestick or whatever, so theres no risk beyond using a sketchy chinese streaming stick yourself.

if you've already got content on your device, you just go to the folder where it is and you double click it and vlc media player pops up and starts doing its thing and then you watch it on the screen, no need for streaming. Aside from that, the primary purpose of streaming services is to find new stuff you haven't seen or heard of before which isn't the case with this, the whole point of a subscription fee is so I don't have to go a) learn about the show's existance and b) torrent it myself

Used to do just folders and VLC, this is an unequivocal improvement, Plex passes the wife test. 300TB+ of media is under my desk in my office, right now im in the living room watching everything ever on Adult Swim on (smart) shuffle on the big tv with a simple remote. Good luck getting HDR/DV and ATMOS to a TV from VLC too.
And if you cant find new stuff to watch without having a streaming service advertise it to you thats on you, people on here talk about shows and movies all the time.

Its really not much to manage with automated tools. My TV library is ~210TB, its ~380k unique episodes. Theres ~260 duplicate episodes in there, but most of those are different editions. And Tremors the Series i have in SD widescreen and upscaled fullscreen.

Because I don't have a different Blu Ray player. Also, those game discs are Blu Rays, and I'm not sure if the encryption key applies to all Blu Ray discs or just Blu Ray videos. I also know at least some Blu Ray players have internet connectivity, so they might need to update as well. The future is bullshit.

Hello there. I’m somewhat of a zfs user as well!
Moved all my machines away from Windows over to Linux. Managed to bork my zfs up on the first go when two disks failed (they were shaky old drives) and I noobly tried to replace them. Forgot a command, didn’t have an export of my pool.
Luckily I had backed up everything twice (one being the zfs array, the other on a large disk) and had most of the originals too, so I was fine.

So long as a copy exists on someone's harddrive, we're good. Join the group download chat and enjoy. You also might not. Discs rot, and depending on manufacturing technique and storage, you might very well not have your discs in 15 years. At least some of them are likely gone by then. If you care about conservation of the arts, the only viable method is actually collective sharing - aka, piracy.
