it's basically the same story with the Japanese internet laugh. it started out as (įŽ) (the character for laugh, pronounced "wara"). Then it became shortened to "w". Then people started saying wwww (like lololol). And people thought that looked like grass, so they started saying č (kusa = grass). And now they actually pronounce "kusa" out loud when talking.

Reminds me of when I was watching a vtuber and she said something funny and chat started spamming wwww. She looked at chat and said they were growing fields of grass or something like that.

I love being silly with languages. One phrase that I'm known for is "have a good bed!" when somebody says that they're going to bed. Now I also say "have a good !" whenever somebody says that they're leaving to go do something.
Sometimes the way I speak on the internet leaks into real life and people get confused. Worst part is that it's usually in the form of a direct translation from English to Finnish.

Also, in my wow guild many of us greet each other by saying "A". It's a very short A, kinda like the a that you put in front of words in English. Some of us also use it to announce that we're back from being afk, or to announce that we've joined the channel. I love it.

"News" in the sense of "novel information which we learned about a topic relevant to the people we're reporting to". Stuff like "this series has been optioned" or "this VA has been announced on this series".
When you have hundreds of series from dozens of major studios, there are a lot of 15 second updates here and there. Like how Variety is just a glut of tidbits and updates that are irrelevant to everyone outside of the biz, but extremely relevant to the people who ARE in the biz.

there are over 300 series that come out in any given year, in addition to all the related projects, like conventions, promotions, overseas localizations, etc. That's gonna take a lot of sifting through, and Crunchyroll is arguably the world's top dog when it comes to globalizing anime.

JESUS Fuck, I would almost love to argue any of that, even though it's unironically true. I remember when a good year didn't even a 100 series worth mentioning, & Crustyroll had just started out as a "p1r4t3, fansub," stream site. Back when Funifuck was sending us Legal hatemail as we were hosted by the same asshats as them in Tx. I was there before DB subs became a thing for Bleach, Naruto, & OP, while HK subs looked like this (fuck, I'm old -_- LMAO)...

Fellow old here, I haven't forgiven how Crushyroll fucked over fansubs in the ass so royally. I won't shame other users, but they won't get a single cent from me.

What bothers me the most about the hit to fansubs is fuckin fansubs translated series they liked or loved, and usually knew the source material, so they would translate contextually, not word for word. Literally 90% of the series I have archived have multiple sub-tracks, with the top one or default being the best fansub, not the "official," translation. I mean, even fuckin gg's "troll" subs were better than "official" translations. -_-
