Although Waterworld got a lot of bad publicity, this is simply a beautiful shot!

They lost multiple cameras to just washing or tilting off of the filming barges in calm seas.

Little do you know that he is crapping his drawers having to be up there for the shot.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked it. But can understand that it became so expensive. With them having to flood such a large studio and all.

Monkey!

Why we watch movies.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“My boat.” Is my favorite line from a movie. It makes me laugh every time. There is a profound simplicity in those two words.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its why I became a postman

Remake needed

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was an interesting concept that the took backward wanting to copy mad max sooo fucking much. They couldn't be forward facing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Underrated movie. It's known as being terrible but I know a lot of people feel differently.

8 years ago | Likes 226 Dislikes 14

Like my father. Who made me watch it 8 times.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's terrible, but it's terrible in all the right ways. Just enough that it's actually fun.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how many is a lot? like three maybe?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It got 3 out of 4 stars, and not all the critics hated it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's one of my husband's favorites. Screw the critics!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The movie was terrible compared to the book.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm one of those people. I liked the movie.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't think it's actually known as being terrible. It's known as being a box-office flop because of its massive budget and all the /1

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

problems on set (even though it actually ended up making money). Its reputation isn't based on the quality of the movie at all. Too bad /2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

because if it had just been a normal movie that showed up in theaters without all the bad publicity I think it would have done well. /3

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Critics are usually responsible for the reviews and they don't always align with public perception.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Well it was also a huge flop so the public didn't like it either.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Neither did I. Doesn't change the validity of my statement.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Dean Semler, Director of Cinematography.. Great DP, and regular guy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This was better than the Postman...same thing but land instead of water

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"The Postman" was based on a book... and the book was a LOT better.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they hadn't spent so much money it would have been considered "Meh", but $175 million? Good thing international sales helped break even

8 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 2

Yea, I think this was a big reason it got panned. Costner demanded the set be built to absurd specs, skyrocketing production costs.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I believe the producers bought policy to cover costs if bad weather prevented filming. Bad weather = delay costs not seen in final film.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If I remember correctly, at least a portion of the cost was because storms wrecked part of the set.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

It cost so much because they had to rebuild the floating island set after a hurricane sank it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mad max with more water

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Also less action and sense. More gadgets, tho. Like, ALL the gadgets.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Except for the plot, script, and acting, it really holds up.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

It's like those movies where you just suspend all disbelief just cause you want to like it

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This and "the man from earth" ... best 2 movies ever made.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I randomly watched "The Man from Earth" because it was on next when I was watching TV, and I'm glad I did.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

just don't watch the man from the earth 2. It's garbage.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always wondered why he recycled his pee when he's surrounded by fairly clean salt water...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Water world was awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 5

Bet you thought the Judge Dredd remake was awesome as well? Love Carl, but yeah...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

If you watched it before mad max 2 you would think that

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

I think it's great because it presented a whole new idea and tried to show characters living in it. Like playing an early access game with/1

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

/2 bugs, but it provides something the market doesn't have.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Hawaii at the time. They emptied the scrap yards clean for metal things for the set.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That’s way before drones too. Impressive filmography.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had sex for the first time during this movie. Good movie in my opinion!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The boat they used was an awesome choice. world class trimaran. If i could afford it....

I like this movie, Dennis hopper was great. He's like a turd that won't flush!

Jesus.

He can save what's left of you in a god damn jar! Favorite line in the whole movie!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Care to elaborate on that second remark? Actual curiosity.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The film was actually shot in a huge tank of water

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

v I’ve been saving something for a special trade

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

This movie began my love for post apocalyptic things.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Same.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one and "The Postmen" Both played by the same lead aswel.

8 years ago | Likes 617 Dislikes 8

Because salt water is dirty.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Nor any drop to drink.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because it's water world not soap world

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Why were the pirates dirty?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

rust too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

all the guzzoline. smoke and soot

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If movies have taught us anything, bad guys in the future will be sweaty, dirty, and slimey. All of them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was asking about the past

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, we have been pumping our sewage into the oceans...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

cleaning with saltwater is problematical if you don't have fresh water to rinse the salt out

8 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 1

also, most soaps don't lather in salt water. Need a potassium based soap or a detergent like Joy or Dawn.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

if you can't build a solar still, you deserve to be crusty from your saltwater bath

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

a large number of solar stills produce mostly enough to keep you alive. Realistically, you shower when it rains and that's about it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's good enough to get obvious dirt off of your body. These people are always diving in the sea in this movie so you can't say they're 1/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

just avoiding getting the salt on their bodies from washing with salt water either. A lot of sailors wash with salt water and rinse with 2/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

a bit of fresh water to keep the salt off their bodies while saving as much fresh water as they can. Sea water drying on your body can 3/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

leave salt which can be uncomfortable in certain places where, um, chaffing might occur. 4/4

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are you not a cyborg, when there is technology everywhere?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And no dirt.

Stop describing ur moms vag juice

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Sorry that it makes you horny. You got sick fetishes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because the movie is Mad Max in a post apocalyptic "water world" and dirty and gross is just how you are in that world.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you hear this on the joe rogan podcast?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No soap. Salt water. Fresh water reserved for drinking and cooking.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live on a boat and have delivered boats across the ocean. It's not easy to shower on a boat that is rolling on ocean waves.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

We stalled the boat once, swam around it, and used salt water shampoo. Our hair was still crusty, just like the movie, after washing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

because the water is filled with huge whale/fish like animals that can kill human swimming in water and they don't have new clothes so 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're very tattered and in poor condition

8 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 1

Have you heard of a bucket??

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A bucket doesn't create new clothing.. If you never replace old with new and only clean your clothes in water, they'll look dirty..

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But it would remove the dirt from all over their skin.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That depends on whether or not you think of salt as dirt I suppose

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you completely recast and rewrote the villain - it would be fine. Seriously.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

I think the main issue people had was the sea levels rising quite that high.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dennis hopper a bad villian!?!?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I forgot there was a villain so I think the story could use some work. Liked it Ok when I saw it, 6/10 maybe?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They wanted a mad max villain, and it could've been a much better movie as its own thing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In that movie? Yup. Bad. Unfortunately. Weird, right?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I respectfully disagree
