I love how true this is. My first few posts got so much hate for no reason I just deleted them and stuck to just viewing posts again.

I feel like the impact of this scene has been lessened somewhat. Still. Excellent gif!

That is the most harrowing 20 minutes of cinema ever made, I think.

When the medic dies it's crazy because of how afraid he really was. Crazy movie, I don't like Matt Damon's part though
HowlingMadMurphey
I wrecked my whole box of gobstoppers in the theater during this scene. Just crushing on after another.
Worldbreaker12423
they did an advanced screening and one of the attendees was a WWII historian. he had to excuse himself after this scene to calm down.

Normandy was more direct than southern France, but less fortified than pas de Calais
Kabba
These beaches were some of the least defended because there was no harbor near. Thus the construction of temporary ones. Was impressive.

Southern france wouldve been equally as dangerous. Airdrops were sketchy at best, and its hard to conceal a fleet going around Gibraltar

We'll never really know, but ol'church has sent enough canadians to normandy by that point to know what to expect.
Deadpoolio7
What if we'd used a really big sheet?
GadenKerensky
There would've been heavy casualties regardless of where they landed. Massive invasion fleets are impossible to conceal.
It's about the defenses built and the cliffyness. Uboats weren't a problem by that point, they could have risked it I think.
Perhaps Normandy offered the swiftest advance, at the cost of heavy resistance.
I think they were in a hurry to take over as much of Germany before the russkies plowed all the way down to Paris. It justified the losses.
That makes sense too.
They had north america, sycilia and some of italy, moving from africa would have been safer but much slower.
'Slower' being the keyword here.
