With Anthem coming out pretty soon, I wanted to remind the gaming community not buy games from EA. We already know, based on the pre released version, that EA has massively downgraded the graphics of the game even though they promised not to. They also promised not to put loot boxes or the ability to pay for power, but can we really trust them? For me, the answer is definitely not. They’ve fucked up so many games with great potential. In the end, don’t forget that when giving money to EA, you encourage them to keep their current business model.
icheckthisforthelols
Shitty business practices aside.. you boycott the game it has the potential to hurt the developers who don't deserve the hate.
UpvoteViking
Bioware is really working hard on this one. On the R/anthemthegame subreddit their team has been in contact with the community endlessly.
voltlunok
People like OP, don't care. They let their blind hate drive them and refuse to actually take a second to think rationally about things.
SleepIsNotMyFriend
Yeah, no. Don't tell me what i should spend my money on
CheeseWheelJuggler
EA has not 'massively' downgraded the graphics, quit talking shit.
CheeseWheelJuggler
Primarily because Bioware is the dev, and no, they still didn't do a massive graphic downgrade :)
killbot9566
And I want you do go fuck yourself I'll do what I want
HeckedUp
Don't you fearmonger at me. Play the open demo in a couple days or keep quiet. God, the amount of clickbaity wailing is insane!
wrenish
I preordered Anthem. It's a lot of fun and it looks great. I don't care if its EA or McDonalds publishing the game. I just want to have fun.
Ssexxyblue
Same for me! See you in game ?
Demostheneses
*CLAPPING* bunch a whining going on!! build a good rig, pay for the full game, enjoy.
ThereWasNoMovieMadeFromOurShow
I just got a strix 2070 and it came with a free copy of anthem, looks enjoyable and if it's not a he greatest I'm not out any money :)
Oakshand
While i dont agree with your pre order choice i do back the choice to play the game
HeroOfKvatch1
Honestly if you enjoyed the demo or beta beforehand it’s ok to preorder imo.
cosmicspacedog
Have fun? How -dare- you. Video games must strictly be a means to take the moral high ground
IsignedUpWithGmailButDontWantToUseMyName
If the game were released and bad that’s one thing, but throwing a tantrum beforehand doesn’t allow the chance to reward improvement
GreedyWildcard
As long as micro transactions are for cosmetics only, and those same cosmetics can be earned via in-game progress, I’m playing. BioWare <3
Lanfeartf
Its EA, it won't be, but we can dream.
GreedyWildcard
I fully EXPECT it. EA took some major hurt on previous games (see Battlefront 2) for that shit, and they KNOW they’re on thin ice.
GreedyWildcard
With that said... If they still pull the same crap, I will encourage everyone I know to NOT buy the game at all (unless they fix it? Maybe)
MrParallax
There's already Microtransactions, the skins right now are set to cost around $20usd
PianoMan2112
That’s not very micro.
MrParallax
Pretty Macro
GreedyWildcard
Pretty sure someone pulled that number out of their ass - only data we saw was the amount of in-game currency, and that was on a pre-release
MrParallax
I get that, I agree that the $20 costing of them may be wrong, I think we all know there will be priced cosmetics, costing, who knows.
MrParallax
There very well may be skins at $20usd. I just hope that BioWare has enough autonomy to not get pushed into any loot boxes by EA.
GreedyWildcard
Same here. I’m sure it can be tough since they’re the ones who funded development... time will tell what all they got their hands onto.
FlyingTigerPoo
It's stated up to multiple times by bioware that pricing on cosmetics are not finalized.
MrParallax
Oh I know, I was just starting to the original comment that as of right now, they had images of them at around $20. Let's see what EA wants
DeviousSloth
They didn't. There were no $ references. That's a figure that Angry Joe pulled out of his ass.
MrParallax
Fair, I'm just saying there will be paid cosmetics, whether the prices are final or not, who knows. All we can discuss is wait and see
tcguardian
Don't care that Anthem is from EA. I want it to work, I want it to be successful despite it's useless publisher.
3tiddy
I actually enjoyed the demo last weekend. And I don't care if you can pay for skins as long as you can't pay to win. I'm still gonna buy it
Athenawins
Good answer
Kaellnx
I highly enjoyed the demo. From previous interviews with the devs, the hate loot boxes that are p2w and said they ONLY wanted cosmetics.
JimmiRustler
Everyone hates EA but no one shits on actiblizz despite them being worse imo
Demostheneses
Im going to be real here Ill straight toss 200$ at this game to play its full potential dont care if i have to pay - its why i work
DeviousSloth
Same. Demo was great and graphics are not even downgraded. It looks and plays amazing. And the prices for cosmetics are not 20$ per skin.
dan10026
I am actually fine with cosmetic micro transactions. Siege has only cosmetic micros and it helps them come out with more free content.
maliciousGman
What? Spending your own hard-earned money without some random person's consent? Blasphemy!
Demostheneses
*CLAPPING*
Thesaulsurvivor
Brother if I want to play/buy a game, I will. Welcome to the real world. Shits not fair, humans suck, the frogs are gay, and *blah blah blah
LucatielofMirrah
Last EA game I got was Dead Space 3
Lamech777
I ended it after they moved Crysis 3 to Origin, ME3, and I played the forced Dragon Age 2
BlueskydragonFX
I had high hopes for Mass Effect: Andromeda. I've yet to complete it. Vetra Nyx was an amazing waifu, sadly she had to be in "that" game.
OneGuyWithSixGuns
Last EA game I got was Dragon Age: Origins.
ordazmic
Never forget that steaming turd that came after two amazing games
EveryoneWhoDisagreesWithMeIsLiterallyHitler
Completely ruined Dead Space. I don't think it was a bad game, but it was definitely an awful Dead Space.
MERGATROYDER
Anthem will be a great game. Excited.
ImaSundayDriver
Naw mate, ill buy what the fuck I want. If the demo is good ill buy it, if not, then I wont. Simples.
vidid
I'm waiting 1 month after release. New thing for games is wait till reviews are out and THEN they put in loot boxes
BlueKarat
I'm kind of waiting but for no set amount of time. Division comes out like 2 weeks after it so I'm gonna be on that one...
thorkun
Is it really "new" to check out games 1-2 months after release? That seems like only sensible to me.
N00blett
I’d give it 2. EA with their last couple of games have waited 1-1.5 months before rolling out their micro transactions.
samsboy
No idea why this has a downvote, it's objectively true. They do this on purpose to keep their monetization hidden until after review/sales.
Shcherbina
I only but EA games if they’re 50% off or more. Last I bought was NFS; but that’s because I played all the others. EA = Scum
jellybeandaddyjl
Meh i wait till the game comes out with a GOTy edition or something similar..that way im out like 20 bucks if its garbage.
JackHarknessNerdySidekick
I'm not pro lootbox but...the dev/post release support cost of games has increased massively while we still expect them to cost $60
thedadwhobeatshiskidwithjumpercables
I'd rather have the option to pay 120 for everything then. Id be fine with a lootbox system if an all inclusive option exists
JackHarknessNerdySidekick
So personally I'd rather there be optional lootboxes than $120 games
stja
Reviews are bought. You can be sure Anthem will be 11/10 GOTY all over everything, regardless of microtransactions they put in.
frostyparts
wow, do they really do this? That is some next level evil shit
CrushBug
Real money for cosmetics only.
ElectronicAdrenaline
No then they make all the regular game stuff look like crap to sell skins.
CrushBug
[citation needed]
LengSpider
Paladins
ElectronicAdrenaline
Lol you want citation on basic market strategy. See standard anything vs brand name. Maybe the same but pay for the look
CrushBug
A specific statement was made that they would make Anthem look bad to sell skins and I am looking for evidence in support of that.
GozerTheGozerian
I don't trust reviews, either. Video game "jounalists" are morons and YT reviewers are hyperbolic dipshits. Just watch raw gameplay footage>
ViolentPotato
UpperEchelonGames is a solid and pretty non-biased youtuber in my opinion. I trust his judgements.
skelekittycat
I follow a guy called ExaltedMarch who is a massive bioware fan and he’s trying super hard not to be biased. I like him so I trust his word
TonyTonyChopp
Not to mention that EA can wait until the reviews have gone out to flood it with loot boxes, even though they said they won't have them.
FirePrinceZuzu
Depends in the reviewer, really. Find one that you trust and hope they don't die.
WukangClan
RIP TotalBiscuit
SnarkyScience
There’s always Yahtzee. He hates most games.
GozerTheGozerian
I watched Yahtzee for years, he's good for a chuckle, but can't take him seriously as he just pans everything that isn't Thief or likewise.
TittiesMcgeeDaTurd
He torches most of the games he likes too. Hes perfect cuz if he doesnt mention it, it wont be a problem for most.
BlueKarat
Yeah basically my metric is 1) friends I trust 2) extensive gameplay videos on youtube from average players. I don't need your biases or
BlueKarat
whatever else you might have trying to influence what I do or don't like/want/whatever. I will say that the gameranx before you buy videos

LeftBauer20
I'll be waiting until it inevitably goes on sale. If a game launches badly (see Battleborn), it will be on sale in two months
Nize426
I would wait maybe two months. Just to be safe
ThePanzerSchreck
Fuck this, if the gameplay looks nice I'll fucking buy it. It's everyone's own fault for buying shit they offer, it's not like you're
ThePanzerSchreck
Not able to grind for the op stuff, but most people are just not willing to put some time in so everyone should stop whining about ea
Arcman304
I got fallout 76 day one and that lesson is never buy a game till it goes on sale. I'm done with full price just gotta wait it out
MoistTissue
Poor Bethesda, they know they fucked up and they are doing a terrible job at hiding it..
ThisUsernamelsNotAvailable
Or just do a tiny bit of research before you fork out that much money? It was very clear what F76 was well before launch.
Anthony88
I'll buy day 1 games I'm really confident about. Such as rdr2, hitman etc. But the rest I'll wait for
Axiomatic13
50 year old ex-game developer here. Gaming was better before we invited the "suits" to the party.
fozzibab
I worked at Activision in 99'. Man, that was a great time to be in the industry. Now, though, I scare people away as much as possible.
Calimchan
The game looked gorgeous. Every game these days shows a much cleaner version. BF5 has no loot boxes and no pairs DLC.
Calimchan
Anthem said it would be doing the same. So maybe people need to buy it if they enjoy it. If they don't it's Thier loss. I had alot of fun
saltygamer92
The Performance of VF 5 is just awful. crazy framerate drops, stuttering issues, the anti cheat system doesn’t work at all.
Calimchan
I've had zero frame rate drops or performance issues. I'm running if at 60-80 fps on ultra. I'm also really enjoying the game
Calimchan
But,I am aware. Then again it's not like other companies are not the same. But they are just not EA
Calimchan
I've played BF5 over 209 hours. It's alot of fun and no p2w. No loot boxes. No pairs DLC
xanius
Yeah, EA earned the hate but imo they've also turned around and are trying again. Battlefront 2 was an important lesson for them.
Calimchan
I 100% agree. EA did some really shitty stuff. Many others did too but EA were the worst BF2 hurt them as it should
steeledrum
I've had none of these problems. The only thing I gripe about is how long it takes to join a match. Granted I'm usually full on my squad.
Calimchan
Yeah, to have noticed that a few times. Otherwise I'm loving the sqaud play. It's the most fun I've had in a BF game in a long time
steeledrum
Same!
Calimchan
It's far from perfect. But Tides of war is a nice extra
KeepTheEarthBelowMyFeet
Circle jerk posting 101 - this post
everettscott
Yup, every time. Any anti-'publisher/developer here' posts. Its always the same.
RocketFistTornado
But, and hear me out here people, but what if the game is fun?
MGrim2003
Ssexxyblue
As long the whiners keep whining outside the game, then we can enjoy ourselves 8n it ?
Jokesterwild
Yeah I don't get it. Just buy games that are proven good and who cares who the publisher is.
Steffn
What is more important, you having fun or you following the circle jerk?
RocketFistTornado
Having fun. It’s a dumb video game, not global politics
Bobcatticus
How were the graphics lowered? I'm on PC with everything in Ultra and it looked GREAT.
RebornFire
I agree with this, and I see no downgrade. I understand the issues with other games, but so far with anthem I’m not seeing those issues.
DarthJ0e
Wasn't the demo a 3 month old build anyways?
FecalLord
6 weeks.
Distrill
not sure who downvoted this, 6 weeks is correct.
Distrill
yea it was 6 weeks, which a lottttt can change in a pre launch game in 6 weeks.
UpvoteViking
They weren’t. The game looked phenomenal on Xbox one X.
Kodaxmax
exactly the pc version gets downgraded to be equivalent to the console version to encourage console sales
iRateYourDick
They didnt its just people with base consoles acting entitled.
Mikstrix
How would you rate the beta?
irced
Recommended title from me. I wouldn't give it GOTY unless the release content is amazing, but it's better than Destiny.
Ninjafromnorway
????? What. Ur recommendations are bad and you should feel bad. Game flopped so hard it made ur mom look solid.
Bobcatticus
8 out of 10. Fee improvements to be made of course but it’s brand spanking new.
Mikstrix
Shit really? I thought it was gunna be a flop
Bobcatticus
Nah. It’s wildly fun. GOTY quality easy if the storyline is good and they make the well built maps more interactive.
Ninjafromnorway
Uh. Im here from 4 months in the future and its a FLOP. not buying it was the easiest $60 ive made in my life. Sorry for the suckers.
smolbep
Apparently video settings in some gameplay footage were accidentally on low settings and everyone assumed that meant EA had downgraded it.
nudes4jesus
the blind hate for anything to do with EA makes the people screeching about it look idiotic. just like the people screeching about every
nudes4jesus
thing trump did. if you scream travesty at every single thing, and make up a lot, it makes your argument look just as idiotic.
Random2400
It was probably a barely noticeable difference. Like, you could tell if you paid attention. It's a valid reason to be upset if not 1/2
Random2400
A little nitpicky 2/2
nudes4jesus
the EA hate train, like all hate trains, throws as much shit at the wall as they can just to see what sticks. all i'm seeing is people
nudes4jesus
using blind hate to justify trying to destroy one of my favourite gaming companies for being in business with them. i honestly can't even
nudes4jesus
imagine how this response is deemed justifiable. this game is co-op as far as i'm aware, so it'd be fantastic if people would shut the fuck
nudes4jesus
up about lootboxes in reference to this game. even if there are who the FUCK CARES its NOT COMPETITIVE.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
I disagree here. They took a lot of steps in the right direction. We want to reward that with investing money in the game. If we blanket >
that1gvy
If they did it right it would be another story, but doing more right than they normally do isn't doing it right. half assed is half assed.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
I'd take this half assed but good half assed direction over their total shit show. Progress is slow. But send the message that good games>
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Make good money. Anthem seems to be a good game so far. And if it turns out to be one, they deserve the money.
that1gvy
Being slightly better than a total shit show isn’t the same as good. Calling 1/2 good games good and praising them just sets the bar lower.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Not if you adjust your standard upward as the games get better. Evolution shows as you pick one way, it increases the average in that >
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Refuse to buy their games when they do it right, then they have no incentive to make good games either and just stick to their cash cows >
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Being an informed consumer and buying only when they take good steps is the only way to go. Can't just prey on fear of being short changed
Fourthmealin
Haniel81
Well the demo has a lot of problems, and EA has shown they no longer care about giving their studios the time to fix issues b4 release
Athenawins
Nope do not agree eat launches demos too see how the game will handle upcoming loads too prevent them happening on release date
Oracl3
Except they are fixing the issue. Is everyone here this ignorant about Anthem? Circle jerking off each with YouTubers?
destroscene
Boy, that demo was baaaaaaaaad.
jsnforce
I had fun. It had server issues, but that's all.
jsnforce
The demo is 6 months behind development.
Distrill
6 weeks not months, but the point stands.
Voltz402
No it's 6 weeks
Trexel
Sooo happy bungie took destiny from Activision!
MrBadClown
Not related. But yeah
ThisUsernamelsNotAvailable
Almost all multiplayer games these days have server issues. Once they fixed that the demo was fine.
Ninjafromnorway
Thats not what ive heard from multiple vip demo players. It wasnt just server issues. Ive heard claims of game breaking glitches.
ThisUsernamelsNotAvailable
It's fun to be negative I guess. Almost all the issues you are talking about are server related. Once they fixed that it was good
Ninjafromnorway
Did they tho? Lol.
ThisUsernamelsNotAvailable
Yeah
Ninjafromnorway
Lost loot, having to restart the game 40+ times over a weekend, graphical glitches, ui errors, and ive heard it compared to fallout 76 more
Ninjafromnorway
Than once. But yeah, keep making excuses...
Jon12cCinci
What exactly do you think Betas/demos are for?

Speaking as someone who played alot of the VIP demo, yes, there were many bugs, but it was still an incredibly enjoyable experience. 1/2

As stated a million times. The Demo build was weeks old and doesnt have the current builds fixes, etc. The social hub being one of them.
sykoticflaw
Anthem is going to fucking crater before the end of this year. It's going to happen.
Distrill
Not if me and the others who enjoyed anthem have anything to do with it.
sykoticflaw
It won't matter if the game is fucking garbage, broken, and crashing all the time because their servers can't even handle it.
Distrill
The servers was fine. Your just a sad little hater boy.
sykoticflaw
Y'all can fuckin' downvote me all you want, but it's going to happen. These are the death throes of BioWare before EA Westwood's them.
Distrill
Bioware been putting out games with EA for years now and their still going strong. Not to mention the but load of Anthem sales already lol.
darkstar2480
FFS it was a 6 week old build, not the release version. Bad move by BW but by the end of last weekend it was better.
LlamaOfLag
Multiple people who have played current builds have said all those issues are addressed. They were there because old build needed for cert
UpvoteViking
The demo had a rocky start, but yeah Saturday and Sunday were great. It looked great and played so smoothly. I had a blast playing.
LlamaOfLag
Funnily enough I didn't pre order and got in somehow. I downloaded it as a friend was going to give me a friend code to let me play and 1/2
LlamaOfLag
My nephew tried to play it and it actually let us in, my friend was mad because he was one of the few with the loading bug while I playedlol
UpvoteViking
Lol glad you got to try it. Friday was a real mess especially for Xbox users, but the gameplay and little story bit were super fun.
Trustinlies
by the end of the weekend it was pretty smooth. Plus it was really enjoyable to play. its bioware's work even if its ea's money.
geosynthetic
This. They might've fucked up with give Andromeda to the Montreal B-team, but Bioware is solid.
slendersnipes
DrunkSideOfTheMoon
It never got fixed on Xbox. Even at the end of the demo, I only had about a 5% chance getting through a loading screen without the game 1/2
Trustinlies
I was on xbox as well. Sunday was smooth for me, saturday night was too.
LlamaOfLag
There was an issue where if it failed to load it auto retried and would get some users stuck in a loop but it was a very isolated issue so1/
LlamaOfLag
They decided not to bring servers down to address it for the VIP demo but said it would be for the open demo
DrunkSideOfTheMoon
crashing on me and most people just straight up weren’t able to play the game. Fun gameplay means jack shit when you can’t play the game
sirrobbifo
You didnt get to play, but that doesn't negate the fact that others who could play said it had fun gameplay.
Kommanche
Bioware? They're a shadow of their former selves. Look at ME3 and Andromeda
Random2400
ME3 and Andromenda were considered bad for entirely different reasons.
Random2400
One was overworked rush job, while the other had shitty publisher manipulation.
Kommanche
And? That only adds to the fact they have a poor track record
Tsamane
And best part, the investors are waking up and getting away fron EA cause they are seeing that people dont want a rushed product
Gingerion
Rushed product? Anthem has been in development since before destiny 1 was released
capriciousazure
Except Bioware does care, and they've been taking steps to address well-discovered issues.
Melancholy69
Bioware isn't much better IMO. ME:3, Andromeda and Dragon Age 2? Not fooling me a 4th time
impalacrush
Both game was the game that ea pressured game, but what about the rest, bioware need the breaks from ea
Pseudosim
Except bioware of now isnt the one that made the games which made it famous and beloved, those people bailed.
UsernameAlreadyTaken058
Like they did with ME:A and DA:I? Nope. EA's minimum effort approach has thoroughly infected bioware.
capriciousazure
It appears that way because as we all so soon forget, EA had most of their team and the effort pulled from those developments to work on
UsernameAlreadyTaken058
That's what I meant with EA's minimum effort approach infecting bioware. Even if there's someone left at bioware to protest, it didn't help.
capriciousazure
Another project, which was Anthem. It has ample effort put into it. Whether its acknowledged or not.
UsernameAlreadyTaken058
I haven't seen that effort so far. Instead, it's full of McGuffin words. "Anthem of Creation". "Shapers". "Allspark"...oh, wait.
Sinmiedo1931
Yeah. I was considering Anthem, then saw "EA" and took a pass. They'll still make a boatload of cash, I'm sure. Just not with my money.
UpvoteViking
The demo was an older build and was surprisingly a lot of fun. It looked great and the combat was pretty incredible. 8.5/10 from what I saw
RottedOnion
The demo is pretty fun but yeah, no money if mine goes to the video game equivalent to michael bay
nudes4jesus
explain the comparison for me, as to me michael bay is symbolic of appealing to the least intelligent people with explosions and action.
nudes4jesus
which means that you'd be boycotting something you enjoy because you want to appear smarter? if you enjoy the product, use it. jeuss
removekarling
The comparison is "widely hated videogame company = widely hated director". Don't expect any more nuance from that kind of shit.
RottedOnion
Boom. This guy gets it.
blackstar1986
Assuming they only charge for cosmetics, who cares? It's your choice to buy a cosmetic that doesn't affect game play.
OneShucklak
dogiecat
Just out of curiosity, how old are you?
DJent777
Hes asking cause hes a 20 year old trying to use games as some form of moral high ground
Lexodus
Does it matter? It's a valid point. If items don't offer in game benefit then they are not essential and could sell for $100 and that's ok
Lexodus
It's when they want to charge you $20 for an OP weapon that you can't obtain otherwise that this becomes an issue
Lexodus
This is for items. Actual content is another discussion
Sylmor
I get your point but I disagree. Cosmetics have been a vital gameplay element in multiplayer shooters since Halo3, and added so much depth
InternetAnonymityplz
For curiousity about why you're curious, I agree with his statement and I'm 35. Why does age matter here?
voltlunok
I agree as well and I'm 29. It's my money and my time. I'll spend it how I want to.
blackstar1986
I am 32, but I dont see what bearing that has on my opinion.

thecomfycat
But I don't want Bioware to die because I love Mass Effect and Dragon Age games
Trexel
Maybe they can pull a bungie?
macarronchacarron
They're already dead, mate. It's not the same Bioware anymore.
Grimm7766
They're already dead, honestly. They just haven't made it official yet.
Steffn
How are they dead being close to release a AAA-title?
Grimm7766
Almost none of the original team from Bioware remains. DA:I was a mess, ME:A was an even bigger mess, Anthem might be ok but ok ain't 1/2
Grimm7766
good enough for EA. They're gonna nickle and dime everything they can outta Bioware's corpse then throw it away 2/2.
Doomgriever
^ This! And tbh if they reboot any of them with the same quality as Andromeda... I rather they stay dead! (I loved the originals)
Cliffy1616
Way I see it if Anthem does well they’ll continue to focus on Anthem and Dragon age and Mass effect will always be an after thought to them/
Cliffy1616
Then there’s also the possibility that Anthem does poorly and EA’s influence will increase since BioWare won’t be meeting expectations on/
Cliffy1616
Their own.
Cliffy1616
Leading to more mediocre Mass effect/Dragon ages. Or Anthem does poorly which might force them to go back to relying on their old titles/
Random2400
There's also the chance that they'll gut the company, forget about the franchise for years, then bring it back as a mobile game.
Cliffy1616
Yup
Assholethecat
Last few games form each series has sucked. It maybe better for them to die than become worse than they already are.
thecomfycat
I liked Inquisition. Andromeda is obviously garbage
mardukkur
Andromeda was a good game with some serious flaws. The combat was amazing.
thecomfycat
The story was weak, the characters were weak. That's the meat and potatoes of a Bioware game, and it was garbage
nudes4jesus
inquisition was the best in the series. i don't even see how that could possibly be debated with any success.
Dunkacoke
While I agree the DA:I was the best, I imagine that many people will argue from a story/choice perspective for the others.
nudes4jesus
elaborate. i found the choices and story in 2 to be lacking in comparison to the other 2, but inquisition really delved into the meat of
nudes4jesus
what has been being built up over the other 2 games. i don't understand what lack of story people could even perceive compared to the others
EarthDragon2189
Mass Effect is dead, son.
geosynthetic
Bioware is historically great with new IPs imo. Dragon Age 4 is coming, though. Pretty sure ME is dead in the water right now.
TheNeverEndingNameHaJustKidding
There’s been hints of a new mass effect installment, nothing too concrete though aside from insisting it’s not dead.
Chloesaurus
The Bioware staff could just pull an IW and leave and reform a new company outside of EA I guess. But that might mean no more ME or DA :/
nudes4jesus
i don't even see why people even want more ME. we need to finish DA and then get a sequel to jade empire.
ElBroden
Honestly, probably the only reason I'll be buying Anthem is because I don't want to see mass effect buried.
drizztx
Bioware died the moment they sold themselves to EA.
pezzle
I believe they’ll be ok - but only because many countries are presently deciding whether lootboxes are gambling. If they do - ea is fked

Lootboxes are the definition of gambling. Give money, get random prize or sometimes basically nothing (in-game coins equal to mask shit)
SoraHjort
They only just recently (this past week) finally step down their stance in Belgium. Before they were going against the law selling lootboxes
Arnoxthe1
It's more than just lootboxes though.
anonnona887
Don't forget that they decided to screw the pc gamers with no physical copy unless you buy the standard edition at bestbuy
Thranx
EA was making money hand over fist well before loot boxes were a thing. I dislike them as well, but a lootbox ban won't kill them (1/2)
Thranx
it'll just kill the small, side projects that EA puts out in hopes of a suprise hit. The little sub-studios will get nuked.
TheVampireDante
EA nukes them anyway after milking them. Only difference here is that's it's sooner rather than later. I'd say it gives those Devs... 1/2
TheVampireDante
... more time to find other projects to get involved in and keep running. Indie or other studio/publisher driven. 2/2
InternetAnonymityplz
I don't like loot boxes either, but I don't know why people are excited about government regulating video games. That's not a good precedent
heartlessninja6
They should. It absolutely is!
reflecter
Unless these laws will affect FIFA games they will be fine
BlankMage
I'm sure the government is jumping at the chance to tax lootboxes like they do established gambling. For them, it's free money AND good PR.
asianmilkspray
They will just come up with something else that exploits a loophole in the law. Never underestimate their effort to take money from you.
gtmiller
Except, hear me out, NA law will never miss the opportunity to shit of video games. EA isn't wealthy or liked enough.
ohgoditsalmosttimeformydailyoverdoseofmemes
Belgium just extended the ban on loot boxes, so hopefully soon.
BatmanIPad
Neutral Belgium.... We hv to annex them.
gtmiller
Probably will in the rest of the Western world as well. EA isn't wealthy enough to buy a seat for the show of them being shit on by
gtmiller
pacs touting Christian family values.
riggeroo
I read somewhere that by making the boxes transparent it circumvents the gambling rule, due to the fact you can see before you buy.
fozzibab
It's a sound argument, because you know what you're buying, which just makes it a direct transaction instead of RNG-bullshit.
Ketheres
Just that the gamble is now on what they will offer you next, instead of what you will get now
clawthewolf
Depends on the country. Belgium has a hard ban on them, so it doesn't matter if you disclose the odds
JustSomeEnglishGuy
But there's also the angle of getting chidren hooked on gambling. Which I think some people are seeing as a big nope.
Boredashell
Except its still a chance thing. They were required by rules/laws to disclose loot chances in mobile games because of this stuff.
Boredashell
I didn't mean for that first part to sound as snotty as it did, I apologize.
Tor3410
Tbh it didnt at least to me ?
pwlfwb
Not just EA but a lot of games with random loot like Overwatch.
Deakens
Only affects regional changes to game content, not global.
aPlagueofSnakes
This isn’t true. If lootboxes are illegal they will just replace that shitty sales tactic with an equally shitty sales tactic.
aPlagueofSnakes
And for clarification the part that is not true is the part saying ea would be fucked
ScoutingNinja
The sad thing is the reason loot boxes are addictive isn't gambling. Developers are already experimenting with other illegal Gacha mechanics
ReplyingToTopCommentsIsHowIGetPeopleToReadMyComments
I don't trust EA, Bethesda, Activision or any publisher, especially after Hellgate London. But I'm a gamer with a decent job and make 1/2
ReplyingToTopCommentsIsHowIGetPeopleToReadMyComments
2/2 enough to risk the money for the next great game. It's part of having gaming as a hobby.
icsaza
SHOULD we risk over COULD we risk, dude. paying EA are encourage them to continue a decade long destruction on gaming creativity.
ReplyingToTopCommentsIsHowIGetPeopleToReadMyComments
Meh...if you feel that strongly about it then you do you. Me? I'm gonna play whatever game looks good and stays good.
nasukkin
This is a double-edged sword. It punishes companies who do it with reasonable moderation & could in theory be extended to outlaw RNG in
nasukkin
games without microtransactions.
MyRespectableAlterEgo
I think it's an EU directive - so that's 27 countries right there (if they all decide to enforce it, and many of them will)
ThatMonkeyFromCaptainPlanet
i'd have more respect for them if they just bucked up and "we are going pay to win"'d their business. Not this sneaky gamble shit.
TrevorfromGTA5ismyalterego
Better for gamers to dictate which companies are successful than governments...just don't pay for crappy EA games
Sverige1
I don't understand why everyone on here seems to hate lootboxes so much. As long as the items in them don't give an advantage to the player.
clawthewolf
Promotes underage gambling, which increases the chances of becoming addicts
Sverige1
(like cosmetics), I don't have an issue. I think lootboxes that contain cosmetics or similar items are a great idea and don't do any harm.
BlankMage
I don't mind cosmetics, but it does establish a bad precedent, and I'd rather do away with all of it than pick and choose what's acceptable.
ReginaldButterwinkle
They're a scummy business practice in all forms and currently represent a huge loophole that allows legal underage gambling.
ReginaldButterwinkle
"It's just cosmetic" is a poor excuse. And at the very least lootboxes need to be legally acknowledged as a form of gambling.
ReginaldButterwinkle
The increased cost of including gambling in their game will put most developers off the idea outright and prevent children from spending
Snaitf
Honest question: How are loot boxes considered gambling as compared to something like MtG, or Pokemon, or even just baseball cards?
clawthewolf
With those you are technically always getting something physical of value. You are not with lootboxes
MaverickTama
It is gambling but it isn't popular enough to warrant legal action. People who get involved in collectible card games generally dont 1/2
DirkNurple
I would say that it has something to do with the structure and speed of variable interval reward system, but I just finished pooping & g2g
cottoncandies
Probably because of the code involved. I imagine cards have a set percentage of chance and lootboxes don't match that same percentage?
cottoncandies
Also there is a secondary market for those items where you can straight purchase what you want instead of taking chance, can't with lootbox
MaverickTama
2/2 bother buying packs anyways because they know it's a trap. They buy the individual cards they want instead.
ReneDeGames
Response as a question why are collectible cards packs (not the game) not considered gambling?
Random2400
I think that was their initial thought process.
stew2884365
Because with card packs regardless of what is on the cards it still has a value for the cardboard/paper of the card.
aPlagueofSnakes
I believe with cards you can see % chance to get different card rarities. So they can say you know what you are getting.(not exactly true)
aPlagueofSnakes
Where as with most loot boxes they haven’t posted how they work or exactly what is in them. Which some companies right now are “fixing” the
aPlagueofSnakes
Problem by making it so you can see what is in the loot box. However if you don’t like what is in it. Too bad. Why not let me buy what Iwant
OrangeFlavours
EA is garbage whether or not lootboxes exist, don't be fooled into thinking that magically fixes the problem.
gtmiller
They had problems, but not nearly to the same degree as now post FIFA. They have to save face when the buissness model is made illicit or
gtmiller
taxed to the ground. There is no way either of those two scenarios don't happen in the next two to four years.
DougDouglas
Yes this. I was a big bf fan, bought the bf that first came out ob dice. After months of authentication issues where I never got to play1/2
DougDouglas
Tech support told me to buy a 2nd copy to use the product code. That was the end for me 2/2
Sh4d0wM4nt1s
That is true... but it'll be one less thing to hate EA for. So that's a good thing in the grand scheme of things.
greenandgrey
Loot boxes may be annoying, but I don't think you want the government deciding what games can do either.
cakeisprettygood
Why not? it decides what betting shops and other gambling mediums can do, this is just a way for games companies to avoid the law
greenandgrey
Even if you are set on loot boxes being gambling (and I'm not) you can guarantee they will legislate more than loot if they are allowed
cakeisprettygood
thats just a slippery slope fallacy, for the time being all they're going for is gambling which im fine with
greenandgrey
You can dismiss it as fallacy, but it's easy to point out "it went from here to here" in the game industry and government. Time will tell.
ReneDeGames
So should I just be able to run a roulette wheel because its a game, and games shouldn't be regulated?
greenandgrey
The difference for me is whether or not you can cash out. Sure the loot boxes contain things of value, and you can pay to risk that gain 1/3
greenandgrey
2/3 but time has value, does paying to potentially save time = gambling? How about paying to risk more enjoyment? Is all random loot 2/3
greenandgrey
3/3 gambling because you spent time to play without a guaranteed reward? Now if you can cash that out to money again, I agree it's gambling
PangolinBan
That's not really the case though. Governments aren't deciding whether games can have lootboxes - they absolutely can. What governments 1/3
PangolinBan
2/3 are looking at is whether specific instances of lootboxes constitute gambling or not, and if they do whether they comply with existing
PangolinBan
3/3 gambling regulations. It's all on a case by case basis.
greenandgrey
Right but if they decide "that's gambling" it's either change your game or don't sell here, which is financial pressure enough to decide 1/2
superanth
Yeah, they’ll have to go back to making money by authoring GOOD games for a change.
GreedyWildcard
a̶u̶t̶h̶o̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ publishing
GreedyWildcard
They are funding the authorship (development)
Legomaniac91
According to a reddit post, they apparently want to charge upwards of $20 for skins.
Jibs33
First of all no. No source for the photo no conversion rate. All speculation. Its also leakedand a dev confirmed its all still up in the air
OrRo77
Skins are not a problem if they don't affect gameplay. If people want to throw their money at it who cares
Mindshard
Stop posting this bullshit, it was from a youtuber and a BW employee on another subject said prices weren't finalised.
removekarling
The $20 number was pure speculation, could be a tenth of that, could be more, literally no one knows. Not to mention everyone likes to (1)
removekarling
leave out the fact that you can buy all that shit with earnable ingame currency too.
CrushBug
Devs already responded and clarified that nothing was final and the info was placeholder, but don't let that interfere with your narrative.
PUNKem733
It's a placeholder to gauge the outrage from gamers or lack thereof. They REALLY, REALLY want to implement this.
Radix865
Which can also mean they can raise the prices... Although since the backlash was harsh, I doubt it.
Diewithasmile
After that reddit post, EA can go fuck themselves
JimmiRustler
Laughs in poe
faceofpoopy
Lol, the "store" is literally just the fortnite store. It's so obvious, jesus. Anyone who falls for this is just stupid
GaySocialistLiberalMuslimCommieAtheist
Anthem hasn't actually released prices on skins.
LlamaOfLag
False and don't forget all future content will be free for all users the only things being monetized are cosmetics and MAYBE new Javelins
Maahes0
I've played other games where skins were that much. Or more. People will pay for it. And they're purely cosmetic, so it doesn't affect play.
NZSheeps
I actually don't have an issue with cosmetic microtransactions. It supports the company and they're 100% optional.
removekarling
You can get currency to buy them just by playing the game anyway too.
LordCrisp
Micro transactions only has a reason being that high on free to play games... not on 60$ games... especially not from such a rich company
Steffn
I think it's also good for non - free to play if the base game is cheaper and those who want to spend money on cosmetics can do so.
ScumCommander
You mean what one idiot thought was 20 dollars. There was no mention on the conversion and you can use in-game currency.
nerojet
The same way in starwars battlefront you could spend 40 hours to unlock one main character? I’ll pass
ScumCommander
EXCEPT IT'S A FUCKING SKIN WITH NO ATTRIBUTES OR SKILLS. A. SKIN.
nerojet
And you think they will stop there?
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Why don't you get off your slippery slope, friend and start working with objective reality, again?
impotence
This, lol at LoL, R6, and every other game. Many you HAVE to pay, others let you earn it.
capriciousazure
Nevermind all the folks against this concept that play Warframe and the like and shellnout 100+ dollars for things in-game.
GoattMilk
But when CS:GO asks for a $10k skin, we all love it
WiserDucksLivesLonger
This is false
Unborn216
That's only assuming at the cost of chars we dont know for sure yet.
missingpluto
That’s basically what black ops 4 is doing.
Nobanob
What I don't get is if you sell 1 million at $20 vs 4 million at $5. I've dropped a couple bucks on skins in games. But these evaluations...
Senguie
Have seen that but it had no source so I quickly disregarded it
bogus1983
They also want to make expansions free. I'm OK with letting the whales fund my free content with fancy skins.
WeAreJustDustInTheWind
76 has some 29 skins, ya you can earn in game credit but still
rshini
or you can pop into the dev room, serious what morons make a dev room when most mmos use private servers for that purpose
CycloneSP
but I mean, tbf, PoE also charges absurdly large amounts of money for their cosmetics, but at least GGG puts out quality products unlike EA
Radix865
But PoE is free to play, and is constantly expanded for more content. Something that AAA-games often promise but don't really deliver.
GaySocialistLiberalMuslimCommieAtheist
Anthem also hasn't actually released prices on skins.
tyrunn
Don't buy them?
clungiskahn
But fortnite charge last $20 for skins. That’s there logic behind that. If it works for them why not try lol. Better than boxes
Radix865
But isn't fortnite free-to-play? Anthem isn't, it's a full priced game.
GaySocialistLiberalMuslimCommieAtheist
Anthem also hasn't actually released prices on skins.
Avlaen
theres no soruce for this, people are assuming the cost of shards.
Dainslaif
Even if it's true, as long as the real money stuff stays limited to cosmetics, I'm completely fine with that. We'll see though.
FecalLord
You can also buy every cosmetic item with in game currency. You don't have to pay a single penny after buying the game and you get
FecalLord
Everything including actual content updates. This is something the rage videos gloss over.
Dragon10449
And do u think the in game currency cost won't be inflated to hell to make spending money more enticing over grinding countless hours?
K8lyn8654
youre why games focus on cosmetic bs instead of actual gameplay
Dainslaif
I've never bought a skin or cosmetic in my life, so if I'm the reason they're focusing on it, they're really bad at reading their audience.
Hexogen
No he's not. He only said that microtransactions should stay cosmetic only, not gameplay impacting. He never encouraged cosmetic mtx.
ElectronicAdrenaline
So let's make everything in game look generic or crappy so we sell skins cause cosmetics are ok!
OneLetter
As long as it’s cosmetic I don’t have an issue with expensive skins to flex e-dick on 13 year olds.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
NO. THIS IS A MISREPRESENTATION. the skin cost 20000 ingame currency, but we DO NOT know the ratio of dollar to currency, so we have no >
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Basis to make this assertion. If it turns out that way, yes, it's shit, but let's hang them for a crime they commited, and not for nothing
N00blett
It’s pegged to the prices of fortnite. So it’ll be between $10-20.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
Please source this claim.
N00blett
Destiny 2. Their currency closely mimics D2 and it’s not a far stretch of the imagination that their micro transactions will do the same.
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
That's not evidence at all. Glad to see you don't know what evidence or a source is.
Lukester32
And? It's a $60 game, the fact that they added MTX at all is sickening and should make you refuse to buy it.
Jibs33
Super irrelevant comment because at thr moment anthem MTX doesn't effect the game. Also no pvp so direct competition with others is out.
AmazonBoxMonster
thisisagreatusernamedontworryitswonderful
You realize servers and support staff cost money right? MTX is fine so long as it doesn't interfere with the game. You still need money.
sirpwnsalot
Destiny is the same, it has mtx that can be earned in-game , I got the game with a lot of friends saying the same arguments I see here 1/?
sirpwnsalot
For anthem and let me tell you 3.5 months into the game I've played it a Max of like 100-150 hours I even took multiple week long breaks 2/?
sirpwnsalot
I have most of the exotics and their skins and I have most of the exotic shop items, these items stay in shop for about 2 months before 3/?
InternetAnonymityplz
Or you could buy the game and ignore the store. The game is fun, and the base cosmetics look good enough to me.
Lukester32
The fact that there is a store is the problem. MTX are anti-consumer to their core.
InternetAnonymityplz
You're going to have to explain to me how having a store that allows people to consume what they like is anti-consumer, that doesn't track.
illegalacorn
MTX existing is a direct incentive to make the base game less good, in hopes that you will buy MTX to improve your experience.
InternetAnonymityplz
That's true of FTP games, but for a box product you still have to worry about actual sales, can't hurt base game too badly or you still lose
suchpwnzwow
I was on the fence on whether I wanted to shell out money for Anthem until I saw the leaked image of the store and saw that. Pass.
Distrill
Considering its a purely optional cosmetic that can be earned in game. Maybe not be stupid and pay 20$ and buy the game, have fun.
removekarling
There was no monetary pricing on the leaked images and it was all cosmetics.

Real money price for the in game currency or how much of the in game currency items would cost?
removekarling
In game currency, no one knows what the real money price is, that's all random speculation.
Gingerion
They released that image with the disclaimer that those prices were not set in stone and they can even be bought with in game currency
removekarling
The leaked image didn't have actual monetary pricing on it, just how much of the microtransaction currency it costed.
bust3rfr3sk
They said the same with Star Wars. Only issue, it would take longer then the life of the console to earn everything.
Gingerion
Which A: they backtracked on pretty hard, and B: was created by a totally different studio. Everyone seems to be ignoring the Bioware tag
bust3rfr3sk
Backtracked on due to massive complaints, and Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't anything to write home about either being Bioware's last title.
fozzibab
Would I get tossed out a window for suggesting that people NOT be fucking stupid with their money and refrain from buying cosmetic bullshit?
Jayfourke
Exactly this. I'm going to be flying around like fucking Iron Man. Cosmetics be damned. The gameplay feels great. (When it loads.)
fozzibab
I agree. I played it during the stress test last month. I really enjoyed it! I don't need any fuckin' premium skins.
PangolinBan
The game needs to get a lot less buggy before I'll consider buying, but if I do I have no problem whatsoever with others paying for 1/2
PangolinBan
2/2 maintenance through cosmetics. I won't myself though. :p
asianmilkspray
I dont mind premium cosmetics in a F2P game, but in a paid title on release date (and not as a DLC)? They can fuck themselves.
Distrill
the skins can be earned via in game currency. also no actual $ value was leaked, just a in digital currency, and people are speculating it.
fozzibab
I can agree with this. Warframe is the only game I've *ever* bought premium currency for (at a 70% discount) and cosmetic bullshit for.
fozzibab
That said, I still feel like a fucking idiot for doing that.
ElectronicAdrenaline
Because it's an excuse to make in game stuff look crappy to sell skins. Just as bad
fozzibab
There are several reasons why this isn't true. I can explain at least one if you're really interested.
ElectronicAdrenaline
Feel free but when company's already lock skins into limited time windows and sure its earnable currency but impossible in the time frame./1
ElectronicAdrenaline
Or charge 200 dollars for a paint job. My view point will always be skewed towards companies will find a way to turn a profit anywaytheycan
UnspokenX
cuz people keep rationalizing one level at a time. It used to be "its ok to preorder" then "ok to preorder good games" then "skins are ok."
TheManInTheWall
To be fair, preorders used to mean something
UnspokenX
true, but they keep justifying "its just cosmetic, they dont HAVE to buy it, it doesnt affect anyone but me." but its still giving money.
