#13 Hah, SimCity 2000! But I think a data center would be a better fit not as a disaster, but as one of those "business deals" they introduced in 3000. Each of those buildings comes with a large monthly payment to their host city, but bring a host of drawbacks. The classic example is the Toxic Waste Dump, with massive pollution. The Datacenter would probably come with huge power and water demands that would need to be met.

It'd be a slow disaster but a surefire one. Decreases quality of life and hapiness.

True, and a very large number of humans are not able to work to prevent animals' extinction because of how much time they have to spend keeping themselves alive.

Instead, consider it like this: Enough humans. Are there ones who don't care? Sure. Are there ones who try to enrich themselves whether or not it causes harm? Sure. But, are there any humans who are actively trying to cause an extinction for its own sake? Not really. (Except for maybe some disease-bearing mosquitos.) But enough humans care, that policies are enacted so those billions of hours, billions of dollars, billions of Euros, etc. are all getting spent to reduce the harm and reverse it.

(Which is not to say that we don't have more work to do, and of course we still have to work to keep those policies active and enforced, when so many of our current Leaders are working against them, especially in the United States where I am.)
