I'm gonna be honest here, when AMD stock price is $500/share, $15k is basically peanuts. It's 30 shares out of 1.6B in circulation.

I buy AMD....chips. Last Intel I owned was a 486 100Mhz

While I hate corruption, I hate citizens united more. If they get rid of money out of politics, I want ALL MONEY out of politics - Dark or insider trading money.
loubashery9
Because it’s hard living on only 174k a year.
tw1st3dm3ttl3
Yeah, Trump bought some AMD stock and had some rules changed. Similar shenamigans with Dell, and another tech company. Including urging people publically to purchase products from one of the companies. Blech.

So we should invest in that then?
hoganGameClicker
don't take financial advise from random imgurians. just buy index funds, don't pick stocks you can't time the market
ROGUEdenied
I bought 32 shares of AMD when it was 2.30 cents. I made a good buy. What a sweet ride.
QuitLookinAtMineAim
I mean, 15k isn't a big trade, just saying.
hoganGameClicker
It they buy call options it is. Nancy Pelosi does not just buy stocks, she buys Call options, they are 100 times the return of a single share
ThingsThatDontJustifyGenocide
Meanwhile, I bought AMD in 2025 because fuck Nvidia.
ps238principal
That's great, but the theft by Trump and his family are orders of magnitude higher.
NotSomoneElse68
The fact that it's legal and normalized is the problem, not really the amount.

This isn’t a whataboutism topic. The degree makes no difference. This is the same as insider trading and any of us plebs would be facing criminal charges for it if we did it. They aren’t going to hold anyone accountable if they are benefiting from it too.
Clockworkdancerobot
We can work at both, especially when one crime supports another. Have to remove his power base.
hoganGameClicker
OP literally shared a link to Trump's trading crime in the same post, shared it same day and it got more upvotes. The "but" is what aboutism to defend your own side. Can't you say what Trump does or what every other fckin democrat or republican does by insider trading is wrong. This is classic whataboutism, Nancy Pelosi was the highest return maker prior to Trump went from less than $1M net worth to nearly half a mill, dems NEVER called her out. Ban stock trading, period. stop defending dems
richardstinks
You can't stop people like Trump with those folks in office. They are complicit.
hoganGameClicker
THIS, no one stopped Trump because guess what before this Orange idiot arrived it was nancy Pelosi making similar returns, she went from less than one million in net worth to nearly half a billion, Hence, dems never blocked it and obviously I don't expect republicans to be ethical

Here's the thing: LOTS of people buy AMD.
There are basically two big chip manufacturers out there making general purpose CPUs - Intel and AMD. Apple does it's own thing, and the rest are generally not for desktop PCs.
And Intel is dying, slowly. Have been for years, but it takes a while, and it's not a sure thing.
So - if you think general purpose computing is a thing worth investing in - AMD is a very viable and obvious choice.
This is not a conspiracy or insider trading.
evilspock
If they *all bought in the same few days* just prior to a spike - maybe.
If they all sold their prior investments just prior to a crash - maybe.
If they put *millions* into it - that might ge a thing.
But - they are just 5 of likely *tens of thousands* who invested in AMD during this period. The amounts aren't even that huge.
porcinechoirmaster
Also, Computex is coming up and there are some very big announcements expected from AMD this time around regarding their next generation chips as well as their moves to expand into the AI GPU market space.
buttcreambandit
Ya the only thing that was shocking to me about this way that ONLY 5 politicians have bought amd this year
Corrodias
I'm sure it's a lot more than 5. And they bought a lot of things other than AMD -- and sold them, too. That's how managed funds work. Posts like these always leave out the context that these are only single trades in a huge sea of trades that happen all the time for each investor. It _could_ be insider trading (which is unfortunately legal), but it's much more likely to be dumb luck.
evilspock
I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm.
