I worked with horses for a short time in high school before falling off one and shattering my elbow. I never knew shaving horses was a thing and this is the second video I’ve seen in two days. I bet that feels amazing to them after it’s done!

Whoa! 38 is awesome! I had one with me that passed at 29 and I felt extremely lucky. The cool this is, when she’s done clipping, guaranteed that horse is going for a roll in the dirt or grass.

The oldest horse I've ever met in person was 40, according to her owner. She passed not long after I met her. The other horse on that farm was 32. Both were absolutely loved and amazingly well cared for.

Beginning of July and my cat barely got rid of his "winter coat", during June's heatwave he would often sleep outside, sometimes right under the sun, no problemo.
And, guess what : it's the same with sheep : their wool protects them from cold AND warm weather.

Horses sweat, which cats and dogs do not do; sheep do a little. So if they're sweating, the evaporation helps cool them, and that's helped by a shorter coat. Usually animals shed out on their own though. There's other ways that horse coats & sweating interact, too, like they won't sweat AS much and get chills after exertion if clipped. Most people don't bother but it's possible the old gent has issues at this age.

I’ve had horses my whole life and I’ve learned when you ride horses they sweat a lot! But we sadly almost lost a horse to heat stroke and she had her winter coat and gallons of clean water to drink. As soon as we cut her winter coat she was doing far better in the sun. You may be right but I’ve found that my horses do way better with their winter coats shaved down

My auntie is a horse person and when I was younger she told me that they shaved horses and I didn't believe her because I've never seen a horse with its coat.

Came to say this. I've used cordless clippers for shaving people heads and they don't work nearly this well.

doesn't really matter, as long as the battery last longer than it does for the blades to get hot. Used to have a dog that needed shaving like this and they would get hot in like 10 minutes so we had to take several breaks. those are probably better and take longer to get hot though.

It's a rechargeable Wahl KMC+. They get about 2 hours on the battery, and when it runs out of charge, you can plug it in and still use it as a corded style clipper. Pretty decent kit, though it's usually used in pet grooming for dogs. Most livestock shavers are the beefier Clipmasters or Heiniger ones.
