Looks like just loss of video quality making it look like the paint comes before the brush. Slowing a sped-up vid will do that.

Ink fills grooves using a capillary effect if its thinned enough

it says it's ink, so when he puts the roller on the sculpture the ink starts flowing.

Due to it having been sped up, and this having a low framerate, it let out the frames where it actually painted the texture.

i dont think so the whole cleaning thinks looks like a poor edit the way its getting cleaned does not look natural
