Ordered two mildly expensive chef knifes, no doorbell, just an E-Mail the package is in my mailbox. First thought: That's never gonna fit. Came down to this.
We have cluster boxes. The "mailman" is a revolving door (since the "Old Guy" who delivered for years retired) of "get it done as quick as possibles". In the last 18 months, I have had three packages marked as "Delivered" that I never received. Shipping company has a delivered receipt and will not replace. Neighbors got a "$50 Blue X-L dress shirt Gift from God". Last night I got a package for a neighbor, which i delivered to them. Much better service from delivery drivers.
I had a complete set of wheels/tires delivered while I was out of town on vacation. the delivery required a signature (because of the high value). Dude forged my signature and left them OUTSIDE. Thankful for good neighbors. Those would've been gone in 24 hours.
He didn't have all Indians in a canoe, not all Nazis in a bunker, not the brightest lamp in the solarium, not all police officers have donuts, not all fruits are in the blender, six of cans short of a six-pack, not both oars in the boat, has carbon monoxide in his wigwam, the wheel is spinning, but the hamster is dead, not all the letters of the alphabet are in his ABC book, not all camels are in the oasis, his beer can does not hiss, the zipper doesn't go all the way up.
I think the inference here is that you could probably CLAIM that someone else took it before you saw it, and get them replaced at no cost as theft. That's assuming it was not USPS. I don't think they do that, but if it was an Amazon delivery, maybe.
I agree whole-heartedly that it's a dick move. But I think that's what was implied in the comment. (Wouldn't do it myself. I once forgot to pay for some gas at a time when I REALLY didn't have any extra $. So tight I was keeping track of every dollar in my wallet and realized I had an extra $5. Thought back and realized I'd driven away on a $5 gas purchase a WEEK before. It was another 2 weeks before I was back in that area, but I stopped in and paid it. Clerk was CONFUSED AF.) 1/
Besides it being the ethical thing to do (and good for you for doing it), it was definitely smart as far as self-preservation lol. The general policy for gas stations, if they let you pump before you pay at all, is to aggressively track license plates and report drive offs to the police.
In a lot of places if the cops contact you afterwards they can be okay about it as long as you contact the gas station and resolve it immediately. Other places the cops will throw you in jail or fine you extra
My dad would occasionally tell me I was too ethical. I'd reply, "I got it from you, dad." Which always shut him up. He'd joke about taking advantage of a situation, but he'd never have actually done it. Saw it too many times.

First world problem, sous.

Had a package delivered like this today, package open, contents missing, great delivery experience.
MrGhostbuster
I'm still mad about Amazon leaving my brand new TV sitting outside on my doorstep in the rain without even a single courtesy knock.
stronomer
At least they didn't leave flyers of ad-newspapers.

That's never gonna fit

They are!
Got a Santoku and an Nakiri.
Love them.

Looks like the delivery person wasn't... the sharpest knife in the mailroom.

What are you doing in my swamp?!
PineappleLoopsBroether
You just made a malaphor! That’s the sum of the blending of idioms. Like “it’s not rocket surgery” or “he’s not the brightest bulb in the pasture”
elbowdeepinawhateverthatis
Fun fact! The term malaphor is, itself, a type of malaphor!
thedudeman519
When people ask me if I like malaphors I respond "Does a bear shit on the pope?"
LanceSackless
Hes not the strongest metaphor in the book
FormerGloriousGuyWhoCameBack
So, you're saying that the mailman just couldn't cut it?
ChiLLeCheeze
He's a mailman, not a chef!
JackieTreehornProductions
how are you supposed to have packages delivered? Is there a package lock box they leave a key to open usually?
RidiculouslyIncompetent
Ring the doorbell, and give me some fucking seconds to answer the door. I was home. I'm most of the time on fridays.
rabidpenguine
I'm glad it was only mildly expensive, and not medium or spicy expensive.
filifili
Uuuu "spicy expensive" I'm borrowing the term :)
SMarkt
that joke was not tasteless anyway!
cantbelievethisisstillavailable
Are you sure you got them? Anyone could have walked off with that package...
RidiculouslyIncompetent
Exactly my first thought. That's why I'm pissed.
TacoPoweredHelicopter
You got them. There is nothing to be pissed about.

I could have done that.
It would be covered by law over here.
But I don't think this is a cool move to make.
