A day in the life... (Marseille, France)

Marseille (Massalia) was founded by the Greeks 600 BC. It is the second largest city (after Paris) in France in terms of population. You have probably mostly heard of Marseille because of gang/drug wars, burning cars in it's dodgy suburbs or more recently football (aka soccer) hooligans destroying the old Port. To me, Marseille is a unique city with an incredible history, a rich diversity of population and of course a perfect location in the sun right by the Mediterranean sea. It is a rough diamond that need to be discovered.

I'm not French but Canadian, Quebecois to be precise. I met my wife (who is French) in Montreal (on Tinder by the way...) close to 3 years ago. Since then, we moved to Marseille and got married here in France. This is our neighborhood, Malmousque. We live on the Corniche John F. Kenndy. We love it here...

This is our living room. We live in a small 3 bedrooms appartement. 70 square meters. (753 square feets thanks Google) For Marseille, I'd say the rent is quite expensive, but you have to see the view...

The view from our tiny balcony. Every morning I wake up and sip my cup of coffee with that view. Can't complain.

I work as a sales person for a Canadian cleaning products manufacturer. I spend my time partly on the road, partly in this ''office'' in my apartment. I'm pretty lucky to be avoiding the traffic jam in the morning as Marseille is one of the worst city in Europe when it comes to rush hours... I sometimes get to see some pretty nice little towns on the Cote d'Azur/South of France.

These are the concentrated eco-friendly products I sell. They are bacteria and enzyme based. I like to think these products replace harsh full chemical and selling them reduce the stress on the aquatic life in the Mediterranean sea.

When it's not too windy. I go eat my lunch on closest beach on l'Anse de Maldormé. It's 3 minutes walk from my flat. The toughest part is to discipline myself to go back to work afterward.

Every evening I try to go swimming. I recently bought apnea gears. I manage to go 10m deep (33fts). Planning on taking courses to push it deeper.

Since there is a lot of traffic in Marseille and that public transportation is not adapted... This is my new ''toy'' to commute in the city. 1994 Suzuki DR650. I sometimes take it out to Provence for small expeditions. I drive a VW Polo to go see the customers.

During the weekend I try either to go mountain biking (This is still IN Marseille)

... or scuba-diving, you have a dozen clubs and a few hundred sites to dive in Marseille (some with WWII wrecks to see...)

Ile the Riou in the Calanques National Park in Marseille. Jacques Cousteau did his first diving trips here finding old Greeks urns.
