I do terminal to terminal, and I always have the donor car running BEFORE I connect any leads.

2 it's only a concern when you are charging a battery. thats when gas is made, but most are sealed, so no worries

Just put it in the negative terminal. Most people are too stoopid to realize painted surface or. Bolt with metal under won't conduct well

It virtually doesn't matter, since the negative cable, more of then than not, is just bolted to the frame somewhere anyways.

If you put + and - on one battery first then there is a chance that you can short the battery if the other 2 clamps touch. Safer this way.

Also read both cars manuals, I recently jump started another car and the manual said to put the negative on the far side of the engine (1/2)

Electrically it all works the same. The reason why you go on metal last is so if there's a spark it's away from the battery vent.

With today's sealed batteries its just fine to go - to -. Older batteries used to off gas quite a bit.

My car's (Honda) "Owner's Manual" tells you exactly where to place the black end for a jumpstart. Might be worth checking it

Usually there is a bare metal piece around the alternator at least on American cars. Usually labeled ground or GND.

Dead- will work. The point of using bare metal is the sparks, you don't want those near the battery, which can, in theory, go all explode-y.

It has more to do with the safety. Without a ground return path you can bridge from battery + to frame without shorting the battery.

Loads need certain amps and volts. Jumpstart batteries in parallel to give more current. Flashlight batteries in series give higher volts.

The "load" is the engine starter. Once going, the alternator is going to recharge your dead battery so you don't need donors help anymore

That's how it works if both batteries are supplying or absorbing power, but if one is supplying and one is absorbing, it's inverted.

Donor's + goes into Dead's + connector to power the system to start the car, and ground for obvious reasons.
