Loot Boxes and microtransactions are a very controversial topic in today's gaming market, however because of the income potential that comes from them they are here to stay, however there are good ways to do it, a good example is Overwatch, they offer them only for cosmetic items and you can earn them through just playing the game and all items can be purchased with in game credits that arent purchasable.
But there are also cases of terrible implementation, take Battlefront 2's original progression system, it turned a AAA full game into a play to win system that destroyed the reputation of what in my opinion is an alright game in turns of gameplay, it's not the best but it's also not a terrible game
Loot Boxes and microtransactions, if done right give a great way to give back yo the community, take Overwatch's recent pink mercy skin for example, you paid a certain amount for the skin and all proceeds went to a breast cancer trust.
What I'm getting at is there is a lot of animosity towards loot boxes and microtransactions, and with the way that companies like EA and the mobile market have tried or been using them lately that animosity is justified, but there is a good way to use them and in the long run the money earned from them give game studios the ability to make better games in the long run with more money coming in.
I made this post because of the backlash and threats of boycotting that Battlefield 5 is already starting to get over the possibility of it including microtransactions, I honestly have no problems with it as long as it doesnt effect gameplay and only covers cosmetics.

Overwatch has a good system. There's plenty that could be improved but the ground rules have always felt fair to me.
JediMasterObiWanKenobi
Yeah its not the perfect system, but it is relatively harmless compared to others in the industry
MessWithJeffPrepareForDeath
overwatch pisses me off with the whole 3,000G event only legendary skins and the fact you can't trade or disenchant skins.
MessWithJeffPrepareForDeath
but other than that it's fine
JediMasterObiWanKenobi
I mean yeah, it's not the perfect system, but is one of the better ones out there, just used as an example cause of overwatchs popularity
JediMasterObiWanKenobi
And they do at least bring them down to 1000 the next time the event comes around, just cant get them outside the event annoyingly
Quack5463
that's only the event skins that were already 1k the first time around, all 3k skins stay 3k the next time around
kusuriya
they are only here to stay if we accept them as a consumer. Stop selling yourself short by accepting this crap and buying incomplete games..
JediMasterObiWanKenobi
I dont pay any money for it, I'm just saying there are somewhat harmless ways of implementing it
kusuriya
Not really if you consider the whole effect it has on games especially since this is an extensionof the dlc mindset. Don't accept the bait.
kusuriya
They tell you it's needed but funny enough games were still incredibly profitable before the micro transaction and DLC scams.
