These are counter balance plates. They each weigh 125,000 lbs.

Another one set. They are brought in on a flatbed semi trailer.
Now 5 plates are set plus the cable winch on top of those for a total of 200,000 lbs counterweight.
Outriggers to distribute all of that weight and balance the crane itself.
They use another smaller crane to lift and attach the jib.

We're lifting this 6,000 lb air handler in two pieces

We had to pull it into the building
Using chain falls and come along to set it into place
The crane guys were great with helping us rig and move the air handler into place.
This was the last photo I took because I was too busy helping get the to pieces into the building.

125k lbs is around 60 metric tons. Is that correct ? Seems a lot.

Maybe I'm missing something but shouldn't be 125k x 5 = 625k lbs of counter weight

Oops, you're correct. They're each 25K for a total of 125K, plus the 75K cable winch for a total of 200K

It's multifunctional, both air conditioning, and heat. What puzzles me is why inside building?

Many air handlers are inside buildings in mechanical rooms. Makes servicing them much easier, out of the elements.

Yes it's not very big. The reason for such a large crane is that the horizontal reach to the set down point is so far.

We had a crane that big for ours but the unit weighs 60klbs on a much shorter reach lift
