Mayfly Swarm in Slidell, Louisiana.
dancingbarefootonlego
You’d swarm too if you only had 24 hours to procreate before you died
ChrisTallant
Ahh fish flies. Worse than driving on black ice on Jefferson.
yzrocketman
I hear way to much about Slidell Louisiana to ever want ro go there.
bisonfactory
Hard pass.

BookieeWookiee
There needs to be a way to report wrong tags -_-
SpookyPillows
Well that’s far worse than anything I see in Michigan. I thought I knew what a swarm of those looked like. I was wrong.

You can make enough mayfly fritters to feed half of town.
FierceAndAdorable
Healthy fish in that area, lots for them to eat
DigitalRebel
“Well honey, looks like we’re going to run out if gas this trip” - me probably
3rdoption
Do mayfly's prefer regular or premium?
Kaplar
Mayflies*
skooksies
Yes
cbale2000
If they're just mayflys then we're good, mayflys are cool. If it's literally anything else though, kill it, kill it with fire.
elbowdeepinagoose
Mayfly? But... but... it’s June!!!
Happened in May.
sirsaintsalot
New Orleans here. Wife opened the door for 3 seconds last week and we had to figure out how to get the 1000 of them back outside
Lolzorski
I mean srsly. I imagine if the guy filming this really needs gas, he'll be in the same situation. Like, what do you do, wait it out?
Utterbanarie
As a flyfisherman, this is porn. WHERE can I get more?
eg4dz
Ah Louisiana, the musty butthole of America
ChromeBadger
We get a Mayfly hatch in Iowa as well. It's all along the Mississippi
aleister94
It gets so bad you can't breathe without inhaling them up your nose
NachoPete
It's weird that the only thing I liked there was the food.
Slixxman69
Hope you didn't ask what was in it.
That's Florida lousiana is the grandparents house on your mom's side of the family of America
whambamcanofspam
super sweet, but always super drunk?
yeah and with some of the best cooking you'll ever eat
BeesKneesJohanson
We sure this isn’t attributed to voodoo or bad gumbo?
Yes.
TheDivineUsersub
Turns out it's about bad gumbo. Voodoo priestesses don't take kindly to poorly prepared southern cuisine. Source: New Orleans man
As well they shouldn’t!

Ah thanks for reminding me we're coming up on that soon here on Lake Erie. I didn't really wanna remember.
The701
Wait....what? I've lived here for years now and the closest "swarm" I've seen is the annual tree fuzz that gets everywhere right about now.
slynnchef
I lived right by the lake in Detroit. Yikes!
TotallyNotAnActualBear
a fellow erie-ite? im in cambridge springs!
cinematicheart
I live along the susquehanna in PA. It gets just as bad here.
Doctorgivemethenews
Thinking that about Erie too.... been around Port Clinton/Lakeside and it was crunchy walking
I remember one year they had a lil bulldozer with a snowplow attachment to clear the streets of all the crunchy goodness.
BlackHartMTB
When they come out of lake st Clair, they show up on Detroit airport radar.
Great memories of Detroit. Crunch.

TheMajesticHarpyEagle
Mayflies are harmless.
PumparumTheCrow
Why don't you go ahead and walk into a massive swarm of them, then?
I have. On multiple occasions. Their mouthparts are non-functional and they have not the slightest ability to sting or bit.
tegfdd77
They kill you when you breathe them in by the ton-ful. It’s fun!
Then use a handkerchief?

it was like it was snowing that cary street crawl before cinco. crazy
drenchedindingleberries
Worked a wedding in Slidell recently. The termites dude. Playing music whilst in the middle of an enormous swarm was the worst.
I wonder if it's the lights that are attracting them. Maybe a different color lamps would avoid this.
ZeroTA
LED lights don’t attract them as much. Maybe by 50%. Supposedly because they’re cooler, but as electrician can confirm it works. By 50%.
Necropoledancer
Its spawning season, some species do it every year, other year, 5 years etc. They'll mate, die and lay hundreds of eggs for the next time
GeminiSprk
We use a yellow light. It seems to be working.
StrangeBirds
I once bought an outdoor light that claimed to repel insects. Woke up to wasps building a nest around it.
inyourheadunderyourskin
Wasps exist to fuck shit up. They were probably trying to weaponize it like a laser for insects
GipCee
You go post this same thing on the Tito's one.
galvertez
next will be darkness for 3 days anyway
Crasher2003
Always used red on the lake and river. No bugs ever seemed to notice it. God save you if you used white light.
SmittyTitties
My grandpa and I were as covered in them as this gif when we made that mistake coming in off the lake one night
ShadowBennet
Mayfly hatch. Have one here that usually lasts for three nights... Any light source will attract them. Hatches can be visible on radar!
