Acetone! works wonders on metal minis. "Super Clean" (available at auto parts stores) works great on plastics. I stay away from finecast.

Fine cast was a bust overall. Great detail but the defects are bad enough to offset the higher detail.

Detol works even better and works on plastic and resin too, will disolve green stuff tho
