This is half rant, half question for Imgur.

There’s a big, long, really weird story behind this — but the shorter version is:

Our new USPS delivery woman is horrible at her job. She doesn’t knock, she locked herself out of her mail delivery van and left it unattended in my driveway (blocking all garage access for 4 hours and never apologized), and has failed 2 scheduled days in a row to deliver a package OR leave a “delivery attempt” slip on our door. All of this in a single week.

In fact I’m pretty sure she forged my signature to hold my package at a USPS location because the status yesterday read “being held at customer’s request” which is absolutely not the case.

Today, I RAN to the door as soon as the bell was rang. Took me around 15 seconds to reach the door and the delivery woman was already halfway down the road... once again without leaving a slip or the package. Another “missed delivery”.

SO, what I want to know is — is leaving this sign on my door overnight tonight too passive aggressive? I’d just call and express my disdain, but average USPS wait time is just over an hour.

Thanks for reading through my rant.

Edit: Wow. Did not expect this rant to get more than a couple comments and maybe a few dozen downvotes. I’m honored.
I sat on hold with USPS for 1 hour and 30 minutes. When I got an answer, my package was rescheduled (again) for tomorrow. I have decided to omit the note after all... if the package doesn’t arrive tomorrow, I will go directly to the post-Master in person and let him/her know ALLLLL about our carrier and the level of incompetence shown. Will also leave a signed piece of paper on the door for the package just in case she is able to accept that... couldn’t hurt.

At this point, I don’t even want to give this woman fair warning by leaving that sign. I’m not going to tell her to do her job. But she WILL hear about this. From someone with much more power over her than I.

Edit 2: Package arrived without a hitch today! And it was our usual USPS carrier this time, not the new one. The carrier that came today (our usual) has never given us issues and has always been friendly. It wasn’t until the new carrier stepped in for a week that things went very wrong. I am very grateful to see we are back to our usual driver.
Will still call Post-Master, but will make sure they know not to reprimand the good employee by accident (I have her name, so it should be easy to avoid).

Put up a camera to get video of her essentially playing ding dong ditch instead of doing her job?

File a complaint with the post office. We had to for ourselves and my grandmother. They will shape up pretty quick.

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

I have the same story, even had the held at customer request two days ago. I went and complained to the post master. I got my packages today

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(1/2) I had a similar issue with FedEx. They knocked on the door and must have sprinted away (after failing to knock the day before).

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(2/2) Ended up having to run through backyards to catch him on the next block. Came out of the woods sprinting shirtless but got my package

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Report her! They’ll open an investigation and it will get resolved quickly. Had an incompetent post office worker at my old place too

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is why all my mail and packages go to a box at a UPS store. These sort of problems go almost entirely away.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like to point out to them the fact they have to waste time out of their day multiple days ina row to stop at my house if they don’t wait.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, USPS didn't get me the first time to sign for my package, so they sent it BACK TO RUSSIA. When I asked why on earth that was their 1st

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

response, they literally could give me an answer except "we'll ask the delivery man why he labeled it return to sender". WTF

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Reading the comments, Tiny Octopus is deeply concerned at the number of people who can't tell the difference between UPS and the USPS.

Hi TinyOctopus, how's your day going?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Fairly good. Tiny Octopus is enjoying playing an old game. How goes it with you?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good, working on a puzzle.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Call the post office

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Totally leave the note, but omit the portion (inside parentheses) Also, totally valid to call your local usps store, ask for manager, etc.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I usually get the notice from Amazon stating that they "attempted delivery", yet we were home all day. USPS be just lazy.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel like I'm the only person in the world to never have issues with USPS deliveries. FedEx/UPS on the other hand...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm the same, our usps lady is great, ups and fedex has thrown shit over our fence, left packages in a pile of trash by the garage. Fuck 'em

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

UPS is the only carrier that hasn't fucked me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I should note that the worst I've had happen with any delivery is having packages left at the wrong door, which is understandable since 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the layout of the property I live on is a bit weird, and UPS/FedEx don't always have the same driver, so I can see why they get confused.2/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never had anything lost or stolen. Neighbors either brought it to my door or kept it inside to keep it safe if the weather was bad. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We had one message of, “Unable to deliver: could not access front gate.” I have no front gate. Or driveway. The street dead-ends at my door.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

My USPS delivery person now just puts packages halfway up the driveway instead of at the door. Cuz, yaknow, 12 extra feet and all.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Ours crushes boxes so they'll fit in the mailbox and they won't have to leave the truck

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

She didn't forge your signature. They're just entering fake tracking info. Happens way more than anyone admits to. Especially to me.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sometimes your package isn't even on the truck, and they don't even stop at your place, but enter things like "inaccessible".

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Also, if she left her truck like that again, frankly, I'd have it towed.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I took 2 days off work to wait for UPS, they never showed, said they did 3 attempts, bullshit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work for the USPS and there is SO much wrong with this post.. I personally would just go to the PO where they have your package held (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

talk to your Post Master, if you can, a clerk works just as well most times, and they can get your your package, and let them know the (2/3)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

carrier is an issue. Can't fix the problem if they don't know about it.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They still wont wait... Assuming they even read it

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You think they can read?

ye but its not my fucken job. if i wanted to go outside to pick something up i sure as hell wouldnt have ordered online

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yeh it's too wordy and passive aggressive.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good point. Going to revise with fewer words on bigger text. As long as they can pick up a few words I’ll be golden.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

1/2 Definitely take the time to call and complain. I've done this twice, and the second time actually got a call back from an investigator.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2/2 I've didn't need the name of the driver, they can easily figure that out with the date and time. Within a week my area had a new driver.

When we have parcels coming we switch on the motion detector, we are at the door before they ring. Confuses the hell out of them.

8 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 1

My dogs are my motion detector

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Long gravel driveway... my dogs bark like maniacs by the time anyone is half way up. I get to the door as / before someone knocks.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

USPS and UPS both just open my breezeway door and throw the packages in. FedEx leaves them on the sidewalk for all to see.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

fedex leaves them at the front corner of my garage, in plain sight of the nearby apartment complex with tenants that steal stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That makes me want a motion detector... good idea!

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

We have a ring from ring.com

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have an arlo pro set, one at front door, one on aimed at driveway,

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wyze cameras. $20 a pop and wifi connected. Even better to have video proof

May not want to order one online.....

Wyze Cam is a great affordable cam

You can find decent ones on Amazon - USPS will deliver for you in a couple days. OH WAIT

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I tape printed tracking details on my door on delivery day and leave big red clear instructions to leave package with my name and signature

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It has always worked but I’m sure it will vary depending on courier shittiness.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Add your signature, then they'll be ABLE to leave the package. Whether or not they will though is a different issue.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I will do this but I did not know they could accept a signature on anything but their delivery form or pink note slip.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As long as it's not alcohol or something similarly prohibited from possession by minors, signature on paper is fine. Source: ex-FedEx driver

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't know this either, until my mail person told me. So if it's false Greg is full of shit.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If its indirect signature. If it's an in person sign then that wont work. And they cant sign the name themselves.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The delivery person that is.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

making it passive aggressive defeats the purpose. do you want your package or doyou want to vent?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Want the package, of course. A little verbal back-hand is just a nice bonus. I think it adds a little kick that will stick with her.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

any callout at all causes an instinctive awareness of scrutiny (which assholes may not GAF about) so it's almost impossible to be too casual

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"Hey USPS, we will be home all of Saturday, we'll be rushing to the door so it'll only be a sec" low key says "you didn't even give 'a sec'"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the presence of a paper at all physically says "we are instructing you towards corrective measures."

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Which would hopefully help not just myself but everyone else on her route.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I admire your optimism, but there's a hefty chance it would just make the situation worse. People like this don't think they're wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And a passive-aggressive note is likely going to amplify their feelings of "I don't give a fuck"

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Finish her

Next time you see her, ask for her name and complain about her to her supervisor. Just don't order anything breakable for a while!

8 years ago | Likes 569 Dislikes 8

Or you can be passionate about destroying their life. That'd not be psychotic at all.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Lol USPS supervisors don't give a fuck.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

15 seconds is enough where I would start to walk away.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As a delivery driver for pizza, even when people knowingly order food it takes longer than 30 seconds for them to get to the door...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I will definitely do this. I’m just not excited to spend another 2 hours on the phone waiting to be told “there’s nothing we can do”.

8 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 2

Next time go to the post office she delivers out of, explain the situation and pick up your package. Regular carrier was on vacation.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Subs don’t care who you are or about the mail they’re carrying because it’s likely they’re not going to ever see you again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That carrier has issues and needs to be reprimanded for sure, however most of us aren’t terrible employees, just have a limited time frame.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had the same thing happen to me. Strait up csll the postmaster genersls office they will help. They know who exactly to contact.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I had a case opened with the postmaster's office. Almost became a criminal invedtigation due to the same "hold" as you.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They will give you the number for your local consumer affairs office. They will lay the smack down on your post office.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tweet it, make it public. Include the route, date, the driveway blockage, and everything.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Ooh I hadn’t thought of this. If problems persist, you bet I’ll do it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Complaining to the local post ofc super won't do squat. We've done it a couple of times. Just go over their heads to the next one up.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Management at the post office encourages this kind of shitty service. file with the USPS inspector general if you want results. go up C.O.C.

8 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 1

I usually recommend going down coc myself. But up is new and exciting.

Companies pay BBB, it’s a joke at this point. :/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing comes of BBB either

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't need to ask her name. They will know who worked on which route each day.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

This. No reason she needs to know who complained.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Better order pillows if she finds out OP complained

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just complain to your local post master, they have forms online and surprisingly care about them. Worked for me, had similar issues as you.

8 years ago | Likes 757 Dislikes 5

Yep with your address they know who’s route it is.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah, this actually works. When one of our delivery folks threatened to mace my dogs I immediately went to the post master about it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I second that. I've had excellent results. Of note- I did use kind words.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

lol. Of all the cities I've lived in, never have I been in a district where the Post Master gave a fuck. Not once. Lucky to get mail at all

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

I had a delivery from Amazon where the person signed for me and they said they dealt with it. (because it's forgery they take it seriously)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do you have a link to where I can do this for USPS? I’ve looked all over the place and can’t find any customer service forms...

8 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 0

Just search for "Contact postmaster" in Google, it will direct you

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Type your zip code and post office on google. The number is your local post office. Call them. Doit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Goodluck! Didnt work for me! Canceled Amazon Prime because we NEVER get mail via USPS. Missed jury duty and bills! USPS is a joke in my town

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most offices have a local number vs the 800 number. It’s harder to find on google, but do a little digging and try calling that one instead

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Go to the closest post office. I had to do this and the problem cleared right up.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Click in the 'file a complaint about the u.s. Postal service'.

You may have to go into your local post office and ask to speak to the postmaster. Thats what we had to do.

8 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the info, I will definitely do this.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Dot

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did this as well with my local postmaster after our postal worker kept putting mail in the wrong slots. We got a new postal worker.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, just always call the local post office instead. I have always had good results doing this.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

updates!

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I’m planning on not leaving the note and will go to the post master ASAP. Or call them directly if work hours intervene.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This. Worked at Amazon. We did this/directed customers to do it. Really makes a difference.

8 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

We had similar issues. My SO complained in person at the post office. Next package showed up crushed. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Complained at highest level we could. Half the staff was fired(we think). Mail service has never been better.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Is there really a thing call Post Master

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, and every post office has one. Basically the manager.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If they don't have time to wait for a few seconds then they will certainly not read all that.

8 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 1

Perhaps not... but the question is they “not have the time” or do they just not realize how quickly they’re leaving?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

She knows damn well how quickly she's leaving. Think about all the goof people who applied for that cushy job & they gave it to a lazy shit.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

*good people... Though maybe they were also goofs.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

It depends on a lot if there new if management is riding them if there behind possibility have xtra work dumped on them ups driver here

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They absolutely know how fast they are leaving. They are given "fifteen seconds" per drop. They don't have three minutes to wait for you.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

Ah but consider this: 1. 15 seconds were NOT given. 2. A note should be left if I don’t get there on time... one was not.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

And consider this: it takes 15 seconds to get out of the van. You DID get your 15 seconds. Take this up with corporate!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Dude, I'm not defending them, I'm expressing reality. A friend of mine quit because the timing required is impossible. Use other shippers
