I love him!
EugeneFarkas
In God Is Dead, a comic series, Satan is cuckolding Hades with Persephone. Quite hilarious.
Incourageable
Holy shit! My stepdad is that model train mother fucker!
LetsTalkGameDesign
Hades is a guy just trying to do his job. But people keep wandering in 'expecting' and 'demanding', so he has to go to work.
Sheepyhead
He was very fun in the Dresden Files
torple
I've been watching Brooklyn 99. First post is Gina. Last comic is Terry.
ijlona
Now I want to see Hades playing with trains and Zeus watching him angrily
Switchflunk
What's wrong with double-knotting laces?!
jsnforce
Thank you for this. I would have liked Hades.
icarusv13
Hades should be voiced by Cris Parnell
raiderpower
Whispers to flowers. TIL DJ Khaled is Hades
HadessSpicyButthole
Hey, fuck you buddy. @OP
ravnicrasol
I like this interpretation of Hades, much easier to get behind
CondescendingCunt
...like your mum, mate.
bryronic
Canonically.
LostInASeaOf
He is also one of the few that can claim he straight up beat Hercules
nicholcm
How many followers does it take to revive a dead god?
OthortheCute
That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange eons, even death may die.
marvelmonk
Lovecraft...is that you?
AnonOmis1000
As someone who likes model trains, I found this that one comment a bit offensive (for lack of a better term).
JasonasB
This made me so happy! I absolutely love people who even think of our civilization, not to mention this. Sad that he is thought by many (1)
as the equivalent of Satan. He is the keeper of post-death souls, not the devil. (2)
Textuality
It's similar with Anubis, who's usually portrayed as a dark, evil god in movies. Anubis was a guardian and protector, not evil.
I blame the fact that Christianity is top dog and the only thing living in the underworld is the devil, so they think anything underworld1/2
is the equivalent of the devil. Not going against Christianity, as I am a Greek Orthodox myself, but the confusion can be largely blamed 2/3
upon Christianity.
Alsenoth
The Greeks also loved him. He was the God of Wealth and Riches, as well. They believed praying to him and pleasing him gained monetary luck.
nerdyvet
A god of death and a god of wealth is a god you want on your side.
CubicsRube
Not sure if this is true, but in the city builder game "Zeus" you do get some silver mines if you build his temple. Ah yeah! Free money!
Damn straight
ZombieZooZombieZoo
Nope, that was Plutus (not to be confused with Roman Pluto). Greeks generally avoided Hades as to not draw his attention
RexMori
To be fair Pluto basically took over Plutus' job. The Romans did that a lot.
1/ yes and no. The Roman's religion was obviously heavily influenced by the Greeks, but it wasn't identical as many people think. The Romans
2/ included or added aspects of the Greek religion to their preexisting one. Early Indo-European religions already shared similar aspects.
Was going say something similar. The Greeks generally didn't pray to Hades much, if at all.
Ledan
He did kind of..... trick his wife into marrying him though.
Insomnia297
Another comment said she "willingly ate his fruit" which means they fucked and she was into it.
The story im more familiar with has him trying to convince her to eat from a lavish banquet. Hungry, she eats 6 pomegranate seeds.
Chorizoloco
Hades is basically James May.
Well, this is a little off. Not only did he kidnap and trick Persephone into being his wife, but he DID cheat on her. Not OFTEN, but he did.
DrSaurus
Didn't he kinda kidnap Persephone and after taking her virginity worked out (basically) half custody with her mother?
Sloppiest explanation ever 0/10 would not retell
doubleormuffin
But isn't it, y'know, at least kinda better than ignoring that whole point and saying they were a perfect couple or something?
TrixiHobbitz
They definitely weren't perfect, but he took her because he was obsessed with her. He treats her very well when she's with him.
A nice kidnapper is still a kidnapper...
Which puts you on Team Demeter in that case
nyaore
The rape of Persephone is only a part of more modern renditions of the tale to be fair. The rest is right.
Thank you, I didn't know it was an aspect of more modern versions.
FarceMajeure
A lot of modern interpretations make him out to be the ancient Greek devil. But compared to the rest of the pantheon, he's lawful good.
Only in comparison. He'd be closer to Lawful Neutral (with occasional chaotic acts) now and then.
Most of the time he's the bad guy in an old myth it seems like it's because he thinks the dead should stay that way, and a hero disagrees.
myweaknessisstrong
In The Dresden Files "Skin Game" there is a great exchange between Hades and Harry Dresden. It's worth the entire novel to get to that part.
freyjaboo
I once shook Jim Butcher's hand and had to go to the bathroom and cry. I pretty much hero worship him. ;_;
I have never had the pleasure. Not sure what I would do TBH. Maybe ask him when "Peace Talks" was coming out, "Skin Game" was 2 years ago!!!
JapaneseGeneticists
Met at my city's comic con a couple years ago. He's going to be there again next week, I have prepared an active blasting rod prop for it.
Also hastily working on an active staff prop as well. Need to get another book signed while I'm there.
Whyt128
There are dozens of us! Dozens! Also "you named your dog spot!?"
Who's a good boy? Spot is.
steely94
I think that might be the best dresden novel. Michael's entrance is brilliant. 'I said I would come out to you.'
What about Butters becoming a Knight? "Where I come from, THERE IS NO TRY!" *lightsaber noise*
I actually somewhat agree, although the one with the necromancers was pretty great too
NotWelcomehere
"H-how...?" asked Harry, "I gave him my Grace..." says the arch-angel Uriel. "Don't you NEED that!?!" Harry asked in shock.
I loved his reaction to pain. Angels be crazy.
SnarkyScience
I'm going with Apollo. Eternal youth, prophecy, and arrows.
chastfour
And lots and lots of murder
MattyRain
You just described most of Greek mythology.
wintercoat
And rape! Don't forget the rape!
And lots of gay sex!
Noraneko
I loved to read about the Greek myths amd also Ilias. But in God of War 3 Hades is kind of a disgusting sick bastard :)
Keeps his dead wife in a glass box above his bed lol
wow i didnt remember it (read it as a kid), sick bastard :/
Dianiko
What?
Perephone is the main antagonist in one of the sidegames that Kratos kills, so kind of a nod to that game in GOW3
In God of War 3 a major part of accessing Hades' chambers is using Persephone's coffin to break a window or something.
AlabamaShakySnake
The only Greek deity that wasn't some shade of evil. Way better than Zeus definately.
Hestia was quite pleasant, Demeter was usually very nice, Hephaestus wasn't really evil, etc. And Hades DID kidnap, rape and trick his wife.
Jlh19
Maybe, some translations say it was all consensual. The rapeyer ones are more modern.
Keairan
Eh, depending on the version, he kidnapped Persephone, but still miles better than most of the greek gods.
Athena turned a talented artist into a giant Nope just for reading the gods on their bullshit
It wasn't so much "calling them on their shit", but openly mocking them to their FACE. Hubris isn't an endearing quality.
Wasn't she promised to him to begin with or something like that? Either way, yeah, miles better than the rest.
Nope, he saw Persephone playing in a field and went "yup, mine" and kidnapped her, then tricked her into being trapped there with him.
Zeus kidnapped a teenager because he had a nice ass and made him be his wine bitch for eternity...
GwainT
Zeus also turned into a husband who was away in a war, another god, bull, a swan, and a shower of fucking light to rape women.
Which enforces my case that Hades isn't so bad just for kidnapping his wife.
sawahbaby
