Saying goodbye

This is Sebastian, years ago, with my now 19 year old son. Sebastian lived to be nearly 19 himself.

Here he is at 4, showing you how sweet he is.

Last week, we decided it was time to let him go. He was deaf, nearly blind, had severe arthritis, had lost control of his bodily functions... We hurt watching him hurt.

On the day we scheduled his passing, we snuggled.

We sat outside and enjoyed the warm sun and watched the cars pass.

We went for a walk and sniffed a lot of spring smells.

We spent time talking about his life.

We went for a drive and he knew when we had reached "French Fry Location."

He ate his favorite foods, including pancakes, bacon, cookies, fries and a burger.

He topped it off with a sundae.

And then our vet came to our house and I held him in my lap and we said goodbye. "Everyone thinks they have the best dog and none of them are wrong." This pup was with me for 18 years. Through extremely hard times, dark nights living my worst nightmares, where he was the only thing by my side. I can't thank him enough for the friendship he gave me.
